Avalanche Protection

For my college engineering class I've designed an avalanche hood that provides people with an indefinite air suppply. Only problem is, you need to be wearing your hood no matter what while you ski, because the system deploys from inside the hood. The question is, would you be willing to wear your hood (completely normal feeling) while you ski backcountry if it guaranteed avalanche survival? This is a survey, please just say yes or no.

i would definately wear it. especially in the BC. i've wanted to buy an avalung, but i haven't yet, sounds dope-- MAKE IT

Yes. He can give pictures. If it is patent pending as he claims, it is already protected. Furthermore:

My access to good materials was severely limited, and so the project didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. It was just a prototype, but even still, it didn't look like I wanted it to. The scientific principles are all dead on, it just isn't as practical and comfortable as I had hoped. I could take some pictures now, but it's sort of worthless. I'll post design sketches if anyone is actually still interested.

post some pics anyways, we know its just a college project so its not expected to look amazing, just give us an idea, maybe with some real funding it could look better who knows.

How do I post a picture in the forum?
In the Newschoolers.com Forum you can use many HTML tags so you just need to know a bit of code. An HTML tag to add an image is like this:



Replace 'address' with the full path to the image you want to display (including the http://).

How do I add a link to forum posts, comments and messages?
Just like for images you use HTML. An HTML link tags looks like this:

I am a link!

You put the link destination between the quotes after 'href'. The link ends with a and you MUST include this!

Well that didn't work (cut and paste).

Here:

replace with

Well I would not wear it...also you said it would be guaranteed to save your life...well what if it didn't? Do I get my money back? How about a warranty replacement for one that works? Oh I know can I get store credit from the shop I bought it from?

OMG!!! you're in College to be an engineer? can i seriously have your fucking babies!?! Stop being such a cocky fuck. It sounds like an interesting product, but you and you goddamn genious professors should probably do a shit load of real research, not just look at avalanche and material statistics and make something that in theory might work. You can't go around claiming that something will 100% save someones life, that kind of makes you liable. and its just stupid. you don't know how many different circumstances can result from getting stuck in an avalanche. and patents don't do shit anymore, don't even bother. black diamond or mountain hardware will just tweak your design a little bit and sell a knock off. Even if you do patent it and they copy you, your patents no good until it holds up in court, so you better be ready to pay some lawyer fees. I think the idea is good and i would be interested in seeing what you have, but chill out on this 'Im in engineering school, worship me' bullshit. The best outdoor equipment out there didn't come from people in a class room doing a project, it comes from skier and mountaineers with experience and who have technical know-how. You better make it as good as you can possibly make it before your start making people have a false sense of security in the backcountry, and thats what this product will do, because you're fucking with lives with this product.
