thats what i always thought about gun control in the US... there are already 8.88 guns for every 10 people in america, so there will always be enough guns around for people to use them for things like this. where theres a will, theres a way (courtesy of US policy).

This argument gets repeated everytime this happens... Yup, EVERYTIME it happens... Every year this happens, everytime same argument. Anyway... I think it's inevitable now. You could almost hear it in the presidents voice today... Change be a coming. For those who love guns and are responsible-I'm sorry but you'll need to learn to live without because a few (each year!) ruined it for you.... Still I'd rather that than the innocent lives lost-surely everyone does??!

Change is not coming. at least no real change. The feds have already tried an assualt rifle ban, it didnt change anything. dont kid yourself, this is america and it will always be like this. Feds try and take away peoples guns and full blown war will break out.

Okay, enough with the fucking gun laws talk. Some questions need to be answered now that the dust is finally settling on this disturbing and horrific event.

Who exactly was the shooter that is now dead? Were there two shooters? If so, who and where is the other one?

The shooter had a son at the school? Where did people see this info? I thought he was a kid whose mom worked at the school.

Who was dead in his home? And by home do they mean Hoboken or his family's home in CT?

Can someone give me an updated run down? I've been following it as much as I could but it still seems like there is missing pieces. Also, I guess as of two hours ago, the bodies were still in the school and the police teams were just about to go in and start identifications and the autopsy service. Could you imagine walking into that scenario? Those cops are gonna be fucked in the head for the rest of their lives. My prayers go out to them as well.

i couldnt even watch this on the news. not because of the content or the facts or the deaths. the way that the media handles this is sickening to me. its so insanely exploitative of these families. showing parents sobbing leaned up against an ambulance, kids crying and screaming. this is probably the hardest thing that many of these people have dealt with in their lives and now the entire nation gets to watch them cope! it also proves that if you do something like this, you will die in infamy and im sure lots of sick people that think about this shit want. i think the media honestly makes it much worse and will likely fuel the fire that is the "fad" of public shootings.

in two months we will be seeing fucking commemorative coins for this shit on infomercials I bet.

These are all things that we do not need to know, as much as any of us may want too. As civilians, none of this has any importance to us other than our own interests, which is simply rubbernecking.

Should the public resist the urge to grab every dirty detail of this brutal turn of events, the media would have far less incentive to practically harass the victims and their families, and sensationalize this ordeal.

We should also ignore the gunman's motive, should he have one. If we allow the "message" that he wished to send to reach us, it gives the impression to others that should they wish to do the same, it will be successful. However, if we can look away, the example will be set that actions like this are futile.

Is it likely that our nation, even world, is capable of doing these things? Probably not.

we had a 30 minute prayer service at my school, lots of people were crying, i choked up a little, one of our school priests just could not stop crying. it is just a really really sad thing.

heard this on the news today while i was at lunch and i thought it was local so i mobbed to my little bros schools and picked him up then realized were it actually happened

but in all seriousness i couldn't imagine have to find out my 5 year old little brother was shot in a place were he should be safe from all harm

Idk, as cold as it sounds, I think it might be for the better that he died during the shooting. This is becoming a trend, and before we know it, this may become a popular thing to do among people on the edge with nothing to live for. If he had lived, he would have become even more famous, (of course in a very negative light) but still, we don't want people to be fueled by the potential attention they can draw to themselves by this sort of thing. These incidents happen far too often.

it was very bizarre and heartbreaking watching the escalation of severity. When I first heard and checked this thread it was maybe a few people wounded. Then it started going up and seemingly didn't stop.


The only positive thing I see surrounding this is that no one is happy with the media. Everyone seems to be realizing that they're taking things too far and is sick of it.

Also taking away guns wouldn't do anything this guy would still find a way to do this. I mean if he used a knife I bet we would all. Be disputing about taking knives away from people. Either way he would have found another way to killer all those kids

i agree.  people need to start seeing the bigger picture in regards to this kind of event..

what about the 100+ palestinian civilians, of which ~34 were children, that were killed by an american supported isreali military last month? they were just chalked up as the collateral damage of war and continue to be ignored

tragedies such as this shooting are bad enough, but when its sensationalized like this, because it's localized, and  there are viewers to see it/get worked up, it really makes my stomach turn

is anyone else at all disturbed by the insane range of information being published regarding this incident?

yesterday I read that both parents were murdered also.. that the mother was a school teacher and murdered there.. today I read that just the mother was murdered.. at her home.. and had perhaps no connection to the school, and that the dad is alive and drove to NJ to speak with the FBI. wtf....

a lot of other discrepancies in terms of reporting. I would really like to get an idea of what really happened... but the media is so quick to jump on these bogus sources spewing total nonsense... I have no idea what to believe.

Part of me feels like the media just loves tragedies like this. I mean interviewing the children right after 20 of their classmates were killed? The reporters were asking them to relive the moment, when kids should be getting comforted by their parents, and seeking help. Media really pisses me off sometimes

The parents are the ones who give permission for their children to be interviewed. If the parents had said no, like a responsible not seeking to have their face on tv parent would, then no children would have been interviewed. Sure the media is all over this kind of stuff, but in that situation you only have the parents to blame.

Well, in a way, yeah. What it comes down to is the fact that people are more likely to watch the news in the midst of a national tragedy. It's business... but just because TV journalists will gain viewers doesn't mean they were happy to hear about little kids getting shot.

good words, but I haven't seen anything that actually attributes them to morgan freeman. And really I have no idea why he'd be releasing a comment on this in the first place.


The reason people focus on the shooter is because he was the exception. Everyone else woke up and treated it like a normal day. People did take extraordinary actions to save themselves and others, but those actions were born from necessity.

The shooter on the other hand woke up and knew exactly what he was going to do, which was to take an action that the huge majority of people don't ever even contemplate once. That's why he's the most interesting one in this case...he was different, and we want to know why.

It really hits me seeing the kids' birthdays. Just the fact that I have clear memories from some of the days those kids were born (quite a few were born during the world cup in 06, so I remember specific days due to matches) really strikes me. I can remember the entire timespan these kids were alive like it was just yesterday.

I'm sorry if this comes off as extremely disrespectful but is everyone really that sad and heartbroken by it or my just a psychopath because when I heard it I thought wow that sucks And haven't given it a second thought. I'm really not affected by this incident because no one I know got hurt and therefore I really don't care, But girls at my school are apparently still crying over it. So I asked again am I a psychopath or is this really that tragic for everyone.

I don't think you can cookie cutter peoples emotions enough to know what the "right" way to feel about something like this is. There is no right way. I don't think this would have gotten to me as much if I didn't have a mom who teaches second grade and I hadn't thought about all the parents on Christmas morning. You're definitely not a psychopath. When I heard about the Oregon Mall shooting my thoughts were "wow that's really fucked" and I never really thought about it after that. It's just the innocence factor that is involved with small children that gets me.

Honestly your feelings towards this are much more productive than mine. No one will ever make any progress in life if they're still grieving over the past.

It's just those poor parents.
