In my opinion it wasn't that good, first off 3d movies are really hard to watch, my eyes always have a tough time focusing on the screen. They made it way to much of a comedy, especially in serious scenes, but the worst part was they added a bunch of content that wasn't even in the book, just filler so they could stretch it into 3 movies. Not that anybody cares.

Movie slayed, cinematics were on point, acting was great, some unnecessary lines yes but all in all I think they killed it.

inb4 everyone gets butthurt over how *insert scene/character/line was/wasn't in the book (when in reality the movie got pretty damn close)

I read the book a long time ago and therefore don't remember much I plan on reading the book again. But i thought it was a great movie! I do agree with sweatshirt. There was quite of bit of comedy. I was most impressed with all the shots I think they were great! And I don't really know if I should be excited or bummed that they r making a trilogy

some fun facts/trivia

The people of Lake Town kill smog.

8 of the original 13 dwarves, including Thorin, die fighting off the goblin army with the people of Lake Town, and Wood Elves. Their asses are saved by the eagles for the second time.

This was shortly after the dwarves, blinded by greed, almost went to war with the first two armies.

Bilbo uses the ring to hide until the battle is over, and then returns to the shire with 2 bags of gold and the ring.

Yes, you are correct. Thats why there were orcs in the movie and all that jazz. But I will say the movie was a little bit too silly at times for my liking. But you have to remember, it was a silly book. After all, it was written for children. Only thing i was really disappointed with was the riddle scene with Gollum. They could have at least made that part serious. I saw it at midnight and found that that's when most of the laughing throughout the theater occured which was sorta annoying. They could have made that scene soo good but they didnt. I still enjoyed the movie though.

I think how the riddles scene came out was just purely Peter Jacksons interpretation of how it was in the book. I mean when I read the book way back in elementary the riddles scene was the scariest part of the book for me hands down, while the rest of the book was generally funny and corky. I guess Jackson just saw it as how the rest of the book was. I was confused at first on how the scene was turning out while watching it Ill admit, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I do hope that in the next two movies that there is more of a serious tone in the plot however

saw it last night....it was good but nowhere near as good as LOTR. The movie was shot almost all on green screen compared to lotr in new zealand. So overall, this movie just had way too much cgi and some of the dwarves were pretty gay. I miss the realism that lotr brought to the screen...now everything is computer oriented =(

it was really good, seeing it again monday but I definitely liked the addition of Azog the goblin to the story plot to add a new action part of the movie. Freeman is an unbelievably good actor also. There were only a few minor changes from the book also.

The dragon's name is spelled Smaug

Bilbo was knocked unconscious while wearing the ring and no one could find him, he was presumed dead.

I haven't seen the movie yet. What part of the story did they end this movie at?

I just saw it and really liked it.Some of the "funny" moments really wasn´t necessary and the fact there will be 3 movies isn´t a good sign. But I liked how they added that orc, because 3 movies with one villain that only shows up at the end wouldn´t work.

From what I remember from the book, almost every encounter is worth drawing out into the films. Short chapters - such as the dwarves battling the goblins, or the fighting giants (which is only referenced in passing in the book) - end up being turned into pretty epic scenes. I loved the movie.

As a fan of the book I initially thought that three films would be too much, but with the whole Necromancer situation becoming pretty integral, I reckon it's going to be worth the effort.
Also on another note how good would it have been if Jackson finished the film with the dwarves hanging from the tree - classic Italian Job situation.

Great film - go watch.

I thought it was a masterpiece. The beards were amazing. I also enjoyed the comedy in the movie. If I can remember correctly, didn't the book have a lot of humor in it as well?

If I recall, PJ wasn't even originally the director when this all started, but due to multiple issues the original director walked away. So they needed someone to complete production and PJ stepped up to the plate.

Personally I really liked it but I think there was too much green screen.

I really think that these three movies will be a lot closer to the books than the LOTR movies were. The humor, silliness, songs and poems are in "The Hobbit" and the LOTR series, they skipped most of that and just decided to try to make the LOTR movies more serious and badass and the Hobbit more like the book.

As far as the stuff with the Orcs goes, every movie has to have it's own plot along with a continuous plot of the trilogy or it would be boring.

It´s been a while since I read the book but wasn´t this Necromancer Sauron himself? Pretty sure they chase him away from the woods an dhe ends up back in Mordor. not sure though...
