Smith Maze

I recently bought a Smith Maze helmet, but haven't worn it yet. I want to wear it with a beanie and goggles under, but in order to do this I have to take out all of the liner pads. Will this make the helmet not as safe in the case of a crash? I want the helmet to be as safe as possible. Thanks.

I've heard that if you take the liner pads out that the helmet self-destructs, my friend's dad's cousin's ski patroller friend told me

Well if you want the helmet to be as safe as possible you should wear it the way it's designed, with the pads in and no beanie or goggles underneath... That being said I wear one with a Balaclava and goggles underneath. I think it matters most the position of the helmet on your head, if it's a thin beanie and the helmet is being worn correctly and not 3 inches above your head, all shifted back, you should be fine.

I also heard this... Thats why I only take one row of pads out. NEVER all the pads.

I guess I also could get a super thin beanie and it may fit... anyone know of any pretty thin beanies? I heard Under Armour makes them pretty thin, is this true?

does it fit with the pads?  also wearing the goggles on the OUTSIDE will help secure the helmet on your head if there are any fit discrepancies.. i know its not what all the cool kids do, but it could end up being more comfy :) and work better

Jiberish has some very thin beanies that work well underneath.

As soon as you create space between your head and the helmet with a beanie you are more susceptible to concussions because now there is space for your head to move around. If you want it to be safe then just use it with the padding in it.

Removing the pads will compromise the safety of the helmet. I know it's not as cool to wear your goggles on the outside of the helmet, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
