Ya he's a douche, but also it just goes to show that cops are normal people with power and they will fight you just so they don't feel bad. They clearly want revenge, and how professional is that? I think the cops are abusing their power and not actually helping anyone.

Not sure but it's not you're house technically. Could be wrong but I wouldn't doubt it's like that many places.

That kid was a dipshit by talking about his rights and all this crap. The university is not a federal institution, therefore none of that shit applies. He can legally be kicked out of school for giving a dirty look to the Dean if they so please.

Oh well. As long as the kid looked tough to people on the internet while he pisses away his parent's college savings by being a cocky little asshole.

kids like this are fucking stupid, the other day i witnessed an angry white trash kid getting kicked out of a gym and he was yelling shit like this. if its property you pay to use, you have none of those rights. especially at a college. i have no doubt he was kicked out.

Its so disappointing when the police kill someone with a mental illness. Police in Seattle shot and killed a wood carver because he would not drop the knife. In the video you can hear a woman scream "Why did you shoot him!!?" She said that because he wasn't threatening anyone with the knife he just happened to have it in his hand and was also handicapped and homeless. The cop did not go to jail and walked a free man.

I hope there is some justice, the police can be so corrupt just because they don't wan't their department to look like shit. Taking some ones life should be a very last resort, instead of going strait to your gun like in the Treyvon case and many others.

while I completely believe that the pistol should be last resort only, I think it's worth noting that being violent to the police is being violent to the police regardless.

He pepper sprayed a cop with his own mace, and was kicking one of them in the upper body/head. If that doesn't qualify as acting violently towards the police, nothing does.

It was the correct escalation of force. They went from physically restraining him, to using mace, to using batons, and when none of that worked, they used their pistols.

It's extremely unfortunate, but I really struggle to see anything completely out of line with it.

I don't think SCOTUS has heard a 4th amendment case regarding University housing. However, lower courts have upheld that in order to fulfill the "educational mission" private and public universities are allowed to search your room at any time.

Yeah, I kinda liked this kid. I think people give cops way too much credit in general. There are smart, nice cops, but there are also many cops that are borderline retarded. Then, there's the people that are dumb enough that they were unable to become cops, so they become campus security.

In certain jurisdictions campus officers are actually sworn police officers with guns and the same authority as any city police officer.

All of the California State Universities and University of California campuses run their own campus police departments.

just gonna put this here:

1.) university police, most of the time, are sworn in police officers, not security guards.

2.) as the student was living on campus housing, technically he holds no right to ownership, so demand of and procurement of a warrant to him personally is meaningless. universities are allowing the search and seizure of property in dorm rooms without a warrant, otherwise known as "health and safety" searches when probable cause is seen fit. most of the times, these searches are agreed upon by the student when they sign any contract allowing them to live on campus. whether or not the findings from the search hold up in court vary, however, depending on the constraints and concessions put in place by the housing agreement.

MA Supreme Court Case Commonwealth v. Neilson which is cited frequently for campus dorm search and seizures states "not only the general validity of such a housing agreement for Fourth Amendment purposes, but also the limits to which searches conducted under such policies may lawfully extend."

3.) didnt help that this kid was a spoiled pungent puke. if he would have only respected the officers instead of call them names, point out physical attributes, and use foul language he may have gotten away with it. plus if he had no alcohol, then he should have just allowed the search to take place then file a complaint the next day if he felt his rights were violated.

there's my 2 cents.

I think movies and the number of times you hear about tasers has led to some misinformation. Not every officer has one, and in a lot of places, none of them have them.


5 bullets may seem excessive, but that's what it took. Cops don't shoot to stun, they shoot to eliminate the threat immediately. If they fired once and he didn't stop, they shot again and again until he did. This time, it took 5.

Kid was a complete tool but tue fact that he recorded it was probably a good idea. If he has a half decent lawyer he's not going anywhere, especially when they forced their way in to find no evidence. They actually can't just open your fridge it is one place you have privacy at least It was when I was in school. When the kid said oh that right because ou cant go in there and he says "oh yeah and he does and instantly realizes it was a mistake because nothing was there and he was acting on ego not rules.

why cause he was exerting or at least trying to exercise his rights, ??? the " cops" didnt even have answers for over half the questions he asked. those rent a cops need there ass beat and need to go back to renta cop school and know there shit so they can handle these situations professionally and not get in a verbal fight with a fucking kid. he was just asking bout his rights and exercising them or trying to . and on my campus cops cant come in ( university or not ) without a warrent. the RA cant call and ask for a warrent, and the RAs can go in and look around but not touch, if they want a room searched they have to have a warrent and good reason. these guys are just shitty at there job and the kid got a lil heated, pretty funny tho . LOOK AT ALL THAT RANCH !!!

In cases such as this one it is easy to accuse one side or other and jump to conclusions. The only people there were the police and the dead guy.

With that being said,I have never EVER heard of an officer admitting to making a mistake in using deadly force with a suspect. To believe that they make the proper decision every single time would be naive. I think our culture has stood behind a strong position of shoot first ask questions later. Yes, police officers should use such force when necessary, but only when absolutely necessary.

if someone wants to come into your room they have to have evidence.

that cop is allowed to stand in the door way. if he cant see anything then he can not go in.

As has been cited here multiple times previously, it's not the same for University owned housing. It is NOT this simple. The same rules and regulations that apply to a house do not apply exactly the same in dorms.
