Shooting at mall in Oregon

some guy starting firing is AR15 in the food court of clackamas town square. This is about 20 minutes from my house and 5 minutes from my sisters house.

What the fuck? Not sure on deaths or injuries atm

60 shots fired in total, 2 injured and 2 dead is what it looks like. they caught one shooter but there is another one apparently. My towns middle school was at that mall on their way back from a field trip and they left only 30 minutes before the shooting started. West Linn SWAT was called in for it as well. You always hear about stuff like this, but you never think it will happen to you. Crazy stuff

well, its actually one less person with guns now because he has been neutralized.

it sucks because a few bad apples ruin it for the vast majority of us who play by the rules. Thats life though i guess

It actually blows my mind how easy it is for anyone to get their hands on guns. None the less assault rifles. I have friends that have M4's and they said it was very easy fro them to get illegally. I trust him with it but when these guns get into the wrong hands fucked up shit happens. Guns are so cheap in the US cartels pay something like up to twice the cost per gun you sell to them. Its not only a problem in the US. I hope no one else dies from gunshot wounds.

out of curiosity are from from america?

i dont know too much about how easy it is to get your hands on illegal firearms but i cant imagine its that easy. im sure if you want one though, with a certain amount of dedication you can get one. pretty disturbing that you can get these.
what kind of gun was used?

In oregon its very easy own unregistered weapons. Private sales dont have to be documented so i can buy a gun a garage sale and nobody will know i have it. I own one unregistered gun just because its smart to have one the feds dont know you have.

99% chance this gun was bought legally at dicks or something. It takes less than 30 minutes to buy a gun in oregon if you have a clean record

Most likely it wasn't an automatic, so basically a semi automatic ar15 is just a strong 22 that shoots .223s all the added plastic just makes people think assault rife...scary...but this isnt a place for a ns gun debate

this is gonna be a controversial thing to say and i think ima get shit for it but guns needa be watched more and maybe even as carefully as drugs are being watched. too many people want gun rights making the laws to relaxed. the amount of gun crimes is going up. trayvon martin, colorado theatre, this, and thats just the stuff the media shows us. whatever maybe it is our right and i am just a pot smoking hippy, but i think guns need to be watched over very very carefully. just my 2 cents

Shoppers at Clackamas Town Center scattered this afternoon when a masked shooter opened fire in the mall. Two people are reportedly dead and a few others were wounded by the gunmen.

Around sixty shots were fired by a man wearing a hockey mask armed with an AR-15 rifle. A witness says the shooter's gun jammed, he dropped a magazine onto the floor and ran into Macy's.

The mall was locked down as police swarmed to the scene. People were crying and shaking when they were allowed out of the mall.

what makes it tricky is that this dude could have been a saint up until this point. Much like the batman shooter there is almost no way to prevent somebody who has never done anything wrong from legally obtaining a gun. The only option would be to royally fuck the 2nd and theres just no way thats going to happen.

This. It's an unfortunate reality, but there's just no way of preventing this kind of thing. We'll never make guns disappear and as long as they exist criminals will have them. No sense in taking them out of the hands of law abiding citizens.

i hear that, after hearing how lax it is in oregon i think maybe some reform and regulation wouldnt be bad. that being said i would say drugs is a pretty harsh comparison. illicing drugs are totally 100% illegal with severe penalties. i guess if you were relating it to the prescription system? idk

but also food for thought, think of how the media shapes your opinion the other way. these incidents are really right up in your face. how often does a homeowner or civilian defending themselves make national headlines?

Still you can open up even if its semi auto especially with a mag like the AR15 has. It also doesn't take much to convert the gun into an automatic weapon. Its illegal to do but my friend says he was able to legally buy the attachment or what ever it was. It only becomes illegal when you insert it into the weapon.

I'm not saying guns should be banned, maybe stricter background checks? How to prevent these incidents from happening is a tough issue to solve.

Also I live in the US to the guy asking.

A 223 is a 22 on steroids. Its a much more effective and lethal round but it does have the same diameter. Diameter is the only similarity though.

Hell you could probably kill 2 people with a spoon if you had a few tries in a mall.

Bad shit happens, that's just the way life is. There's no easy fix that can be applied to every facet of life. You can't just legislate the world to safety.

People just have the need to feel like they accomplish something after bad situations. It doesn't necessarily make things any safer, but they like to be able to feel like they did something.

Exactly, its a strong roung but no 3006, 45-70, hell a 12g with a drumb and slugs would do so much more damang than an ar15, its just something about all that plastic and the word assult rife that scares the hell out of people
