I've center mounted my last like 8 skis, and I got a pair of One Lifes as my first pow ski but there is no line(s) showing center or recommended mounting points. How do I choose where to mount these bitches? Should I just find the center by measuring, and go -2cm or so? Any help from those with pow ski or mounting experience?
I'm pretty positive that you should mount them center. If I remember correctly, with all of Surface's freestyle-oriented skis, which the One Lifes are, their recommended line and mount point is actually at center.
At least, that was the case with my No Times and One Times.
I think I am going to go with 93cm from tail, which is 1.5cm back from true center, which is also where I have been told that the center of the camber portion of the ski is (although that is not yet confirmed).
Do you really think 1.5cm back will make a difference? I figured IF it would even be noticeable, being a tiny bit back would help with float and being in the center of that running length would help when they have to be ridden on hardpack (albeit only a tiny bit).
I mean, I have a totally open mind with this... just don't say mount it center and then offer no justifications. I would rather be further up on that small 90cm running surface why?
I mounted mine i think at -2cm from the true center. I believe this put me right in the center of the effective (middle cambered section) edge. It worked great i wouldnt suggest going anywhere else. You want as much fore and aft support as you can get because they feel a little short when you are bombing groomers
mine are at 2 back (-2cm) from center.
in addition to the points that others have mentioned, this mount simply feels great. it puts you in the sweet spot of the ski.
I have new lifes mounted at dead center, go center, that's the way surface wants them to be skied, they should have a center line somewhere, on my new lifes it's one really thin line on the top sheet.
I think these guys have got it covered. The mounting chart on Surface's website is a great resource. The reason Surface doesn't put lines on their skis is because there is no guarantee it will remain in the right place during the pressing process.
