The slow grind to the military state and the slow slide towards the same, things the U.S. fought against in WW2, labour camps full of jews producing products for large companies who made things from clothes to tank parts and all in between, they say we have the higher ground, while the Chinese build brand new cities each year American cities and infrastrucure crumbles, where companies can shrug off responsibility for those who make their goods.
well it makes perfect sense. i guess the only thing that would make you want to work this shitty of a job is to do something other than be in jail all day.
while this is pretty fucked up, theres nothing i can do to make an impact on this and other than the idea of this happening making me feel bad, this does not affect me in any way.
I agree on the low pay part and possibly optional depending on health conditions....I think it should be mandatory for all capable prisoners atleast a couple hours a day. Reduced sentences I don't agree with, their in there for a reason and need to serve their sentences. Thats up to the parole board
WHAT? They're prisoners. They have NO rights in prison. It costs a lot of money to house and feed a prisoner, so why not make them do work to help subsidize the cost of their incarceration? It's not supposed to be a fucking vacation. It's supposed to be punishment, and there's nothing cruel or unusual about having to do manual labor.
Hell, they might even pick up a skill or two that they could use to get a real job when they get out of prison!!??!? What? A job? There's a novel idea!
The reason why they are in there in the first place is because they did something that hurt the public good or put the public at risk. Although I really don't agree with the privatization of prisons, I absolutely think they should be forced to work at least some job.
In case you haven't read this article about private prison owners and its influence on Rap/Hip-Hop its an incredible read. No one knows if its exactly a legitimate source but it really makes sense.
Call me what you will, but I think that while the law does serve to protect the interests of the general population sometimes, often it serves the interests of the ruling minority that create the laws. Not everyone that is in prison is a threat to the peace of society. There is still institutionalized racism in the way the prison system operates; the overwhelming majority of people in prison are not white, or middle class. This is not much better than slavery. The US forms laws to make money and keep people they don't like off the streets instead of helping them, and then makes a profit off manipulating them to work for private companies.
They are not forced to work but they are manipulated as such that it is the most attractive option. When companies and governments have a reason to want more people in prison, the system is not going to be fair and objective.
Mentioning the holocaust in your argument automatically invalidates it, I hope you know. Most Jews in the prison camps were there only because they were jewish, not because they committed a crime. Everyone in prison has committed a crime, minus the few that are actually innocent.
Therefore, you cannot claim that making imprisoned Jews work is the same as making convicted criminals work.
There are more minorities in prison because they commit more crimes. How is that racist? The us forms laws to make money? Do you know how much money a fair trail cost the tax payers? how much it cost to enforce the laws? Or how much it costs to encarserate someone? If it was up to me I would put a bullet in most of their heads just like animal shelters do to animals that can't be rehabilitated. As far as work goes would you want to be in a prison twirling your thumbs or work to keep your mind off the time. Hell I would work for free if it provided some alteration to sitting in a room all day.
More blacks are in gangs. The only gang I can think of that has white people is white supremests. 8000 to 9000 African Americans are murdered each year 49% of the total murders in the us 93% of the time the murder is committed by another African American. you can't take these events out of context though; the context being hundreds of years of oppression. it wasn't like one day people of colour could vote and everything went back to normal. people still stereotype, people still discriminate, and the oppression that put minorities at a disadvantage... leaves them at a disadvantage. gangs started in times of oppression and exist because of racism, not because black people like guns and drugs more than white people.
That's bs my great grand father was an indentured servant who worked the salt mines in Minnesota. He was nothing more than a slave who worked in more dangerous and more labous conditions than almost all black slaves blacks slaves at the time the Irish were only a have step above the blacks, true third class citizens. Yet we managed to be sucessful dispite a thousand years of oppression from the British and Americans in conditions way worse my great grandfather was the only one not to starve in Ireland. Blacks have only been oppressed for two hundred year we have been oppressed for a thousand, yet we have managed to be sucessfull and the most oppressed people in history the Jews have been sucessful. I don't know why blacks feel like there owed somthing my grandfather was a slave and I don't feel like I'm entitled to somthing for his suffering
