no. not explained. I wasn't talking about the Olympics. I'm talking about Olympic events. skiing events that are in the Olympics. For instance take any amateur or pro race at a hill in Canada here. They will absolutely postpone for weather if it will be severely detrimental to the well being of the athletes. THat's what I'm talking about. Events that are the same size as Dew Tour that seem to manage just fine.

With the Olympics, ALL the athletes are their for the ENTIRE two week span of the games. That means there are very minor additional costs incurred from postponing a skiing event, to use your example. They can air another event during the previous skiing slot, and then send the skiers out a day, two days, or a week later and broadcast it then. All the TV slots are already purchased, all the equipment, staff, lodging, sponsors, etc. etc. etc. are ALL still there for the duration of the games. With an event like the Dew Tour, NO ONE is planning to be there after their final event.

given that it was the last day of competition, they really had no option to postpone it for another day. Logistically, with an event like this it just wouldnt be possible to pull it off. You guys are not making fair comparison s with the olympics or a tennis match, a ski slopestyle event is way more complicated and tricky then those, and the dew tour is barely profitable as is and wouldnt have the resources to stay longer in breck. I know it would have been ideal, but you gotta be realistic too.

The only thin thy made watching it barable, the other announcers are total fucking idiots!!!!! That was a horrible comp, but giving the fact that its dew tour I'm not surprised. No real skaters compete in the summe ones, they absolutely hate it!!!!!

snowboard slope went much better. people still managed to slay the course despite winds.

i think that the weather is just part of the game, it's good or it's bad, you can't really do anything but go out and try your best. I thought the course was pretty great and LVV did a great job announcing. Pipe and Big Air for Skiing were also quite good. If only the weather were a bit better so people could slay that course.

I think everyone here is wasting their energy arguing about this. Yes they should have postponed the event, that is simple enough to agree on. The mistake that was made was made while scheduling the event in the first place. Big Mountain competitions, on average, have at least two weather days scheduled in. The Dew Tour should oh had at least one weather day scheduled for situations like this. They didn't have a weather day option, and therefore could not postpone the event.

People saying 'they couldn't postpone' are kinda wrong, because they COULD have, if they scheduled in a weather day. But this is all in hindsight, so it really is wasted energy to argue about it at this point. The only thing to do now is to learn from this and not make the same mistakes again.

I think it's worth it to complain. We need to show that there is a large group of people passionate about the poor decision that was made. honestly, I think it's our best play. Sure we're going to probably be just as effective as occupy wall street but it's not like we have to put into effort into putting our point across.

Well, yes and no. I've always thought it funny when viewers/fans think they have a say in the sport. Ultimately, it's up to the competitors and event organizers in the sport to put their foot down and make a change, not the viewer. If the viewer decided the way sports ran themselves, do you think the NHL would be on lock out right now?

I HOPE the athletes still have the power to say "Fuck this, that's not safe, I'm not skiing it" without getting boned by their sponsors, Nbc and whatnot.

Gosh I've read through all pages of this thread,keeping up on the thoughts of the contest while I was out there.

Something I wanted to mention was the unfortunate outcome for Emilia Wint. I don't know if it was live streamed for any of you to see it. Anyway, Emilias first run was smooth and without errors and surely would have got her on the podium. Some were saying she would have taken 1st. Unfortunately there was a camera malfunction that forced her to "redo" her run since they couldn't score her w/o camera feed. On the redo, she fell. On her 3rd run she was having a great go of it until the last hit where she crashed horribly, needing to be takin off on the sled thing. Looks like a knee injury, possible ACL.

Just a shame this, all because a camera went down.

Also, I heard Andreas injured his tailbone area, possibly broken tailbone but not sure. At least not his knees!

Did anyone mention Alexi Godbout? He crashed hard and look like he blew out his knee. Such a bummer for him as he was killing it til the last hit!

As others have said, it's just a shame the event couldn't have some how been delayed or something. Congrats to Russ, Andreas and Henrik though!
