Last year was about 10000X better, and i cant believe now that dew is over for another whole year. At least last year if there was bad whether there would be a few more stops for redemption, now one day of bad weather ruined everything.

On his first run he did a right cork 9 on the last jump. On his second run, everything was going perfectly, and he was coming into the last jump with a lot of speed to combat the wind, but apparantly the wind stopped right before he hit the jump. He did a right dub 12 and went huuuuuuuge, over-rotated to like 1350 and crashed on his side. It didn't look like he hit his head, but the whiplash looked fucking brutal.

quick recap everyone fell on at least one of their runs i think, rail tricks were disappointing given how dope the course was and the wind was a bitch

Haha yeah he put a couple pieces of tape on each leg for his final run. Probably in an attempt to sustain more speed.

Woodsy and Goepper qualified 1st and 2nd and didn't put a full run together, their first run had wicked bad wind and they skipped the last jump, Goepper knuckled hard on his third jump of his 2nd run, and the wind picked up reeeally bad for Woodsy during his 2nd run so he skipped the last jump.

Tom's (left?) ski popped off when he was going for a switch right dub 10, Andreas crashed hard, and the highest score was an 84.50 I believe.

Edollo did a disaster 630 onto the DFD, and a butter dub 10 on his first jump. Matt Walker had the smoothest run IMO.

anyone know why Henrik wasnt aloud to use his helmet and had to use that pink rental helmet? I actually think the pink helmet looked kinda cool .

I just checked twitter on my phone and I only saw 2 tweets that were #dewtourlive. One was from Nate Abbott who said the right thing.

No competition should be over how many people can blow a knee and the medical bills that come with it. If the sponsors want a good contest, give te athletes a chance to have it. I don't blame anyone who didn't I've their all today. It wasn't worth it.

I'm stuck at EWR which doesn't have free wifi so I really can't say everything I want to say but someone dropped the ball.

I thinks it's because the inside of the helmet said it was to be used for wakeboarding and something else, not skiing. So they made him get a new one and he wanted something funky. thats what I heard watching the big air on nbc, correct me if I'm wrong

I understand that, but don't they postpone tennis matches just because it is raining ? What will the rain do to tennis players make them slide and make them not perform at their maximum potential. Here we are talking about skiers that are going off 63 feet jump with unstable wind and powdery course.

Do you remember the reason about the crash that changed Pekka's life ? It was because of a gust of wind in the middle of a trick. Therefor I find it pretty irresponsible that the organizers of this event are more concerned about the broadcasting of the event then the actual safety of the riders.

I also find it pretty sad that this was broadcast live for the general public to see how awesome or sport is and also how good the best athletes in the world of our sport are at skiing around the jumps !!!

Every televised outdoor sport ever has been canceled/postponed by the weather. Even the NBA had a game cancelled because of weather last month. The weather effects skiing just as much as NASCAR. Why can anyone say the dew tour shouldn't be postponed because of the weather?

A) That's not really true. Tons of outdoor sports continue (soccer, football, rugby, etc.). F1 races continue in rain all the time.

B) When do you suggest they postpone it until? When they set a date that's a huge investment of money and employees.

rain can postpone "soccer" matches. happens all the time in england

the thing here is they overlooked the riders safety to ensure the program went ahead. if somebody was to seriously injure themselves what would happen?

they are almost being forced to compete if they want any chance of gaining points to win the overall title, which could mean who is prepared to ski in the shittiest conditions as opposed to the best skier winning

A) it is true, sporting events that bring 1000 times the money into the economy than Dew Tour are cancelled because of weather relatively often.

B) Postpone it to the next day. or the day after. I don't think you realize the risks of skiing a course like that under those conditions. There's no Dew Tour at all if your athletes are all broken up. Also Dew Tour is minor minor minor pennies for media. They'd seriously make more money playing reruns of just about any other major league sporting event. So it's really not a big deal for them if they don't air it at all.

Hadn't thought about this, but you are absolutely correct. A gust of wind mid air knocked Pekka into a coma. Now you're taking that same risk with 13 skiers instead of just 1.

Like I mean what the fuck. There have been bad slopestyle weathers before, why is this somehow "worst" or one of the the worst?

I do realize the risks and sadly some skiers did get injured because of the conditions. That sucks and hopefully they have a swift recovery. There is only one Dew Tour mountain stop though and the date was set months ago. For NBC I'm sure they could handle not airing it, but that would go against their contract with the Dew Tour and tons of sponsors. It wasn't NBCs decision. For the Dew Tour this stop is worth much more than minor pennies. The entire weekend is pretty much a third of their yearly runtime now. So if they were to cancel they would lose tons of money. As for postponing it they have athletes with tight schedules or budgets leaving tonight and the weather won't be much better in a day or two. If they somehow managed to postpone it to tuesday or wednesday they would have to spend TONS of money: Breck for hosting, employees to stay on a few extra days, and ANOTHER tv spot with NBC. That would never get them their money back.

The fact that NBC Sports is showing ski slopestyle sort of shows how they are not too concerned about money. Honestly, how many people are gonna tune in to watch the Ski Slopestyle on a sunday afternoon?
They would make more money by showing a popular sport (soccer, football) in that time slot instead of running the Dew Tour. Postponing the Dew Tour, in my opinion, would not have much (if any) harm.

Also, money and contracts should NEVER take precedence over 12 people's lives.

You missed my point. NBC didn't have a choice in whether the competition was postponed/cancelled. That decision is left up the Dew Tour organizers and in that case it DOES cause financial harm. So they continued to run it and the athletes ALWAYS had the choice not to drop in. This is the first contest where points count towards Sochi so if we blame the Dew Tour for them dropping in and getting an injury we also have to blame the Olympics, FIS, etc. This sport is built around variable weather, we have to accept that.

and they cancel skiing events at the Olympics or just about any other venue if they weather is bad. I mean ski jumping is cancelled in a heartbeat if there's even the chance of gusts being too strong and sending skiers off the course. Sure, skiing it's built around variable weather. But competitions are not. You simply don't put the lives of athletes at risk over a few thousand dollars.

I'm not saying it's the worst because of the weather. It's how they dealt with the weather, the constant fuck ups in video coverage, the beyond shitty judging, the abysmal announcers. Just everything added up to it being a really really poorly done event from where I was sitting. Maybe actually being there would have given me a different opinion.

This is what I strongly disagree with. The athletes were not put at risk by the Dew Tour. The course was solid, it was the weather that made things dangerous. The final decision is left up to the skiers. They don't have to take their run if they don't want to. They also have to sign those liability documents for each competition that explicitly state these agreements.

You also haven't suggested a plausible way for the Dew Tour organizers to avoid the weather. Basically the show must go on. Cancelling or postponing it weren't reasonable options. At least they were doing their best to slip the course between runs.

then how is it that every Olympic ski event pre-2014 is able to postpone or cancel events simply because of weather with no issues? explain that to me. then explain why Dew Tour is so much different than all these other events that they can't possibly do anything about it.

If this was an Olympic event I'm sure it would've been postponed, but not cancelled. Perhaps that's a benefit I haven't considered. There are at least 3-4 years put into organizing an Olympic games though. I guarantee you they already have a time they can postpone the 2014 slopestyle competition to. They also have a ~2 week window for these events and purposefully put some more weather delicate ones near the beginning to adjust for this. They still don't cancel games though. The only real reason the Olympics have been cancelled was for world wars. They get the events done no matter what (at least I'm 90% an event hasn't been cancelled).

There, explained: Dew Tour has about 3 less years of planning, less than half the competition window to reschedule, and a fraction of the budget. They had nowhere to move the event.
