My armada el reys got a gouge by the edge last night in the backyard. Not very deep. Don't see any wood from the core and no more than .75 mm deep at most. But with it touching the edge on my back ski when I grind i'm not sure if I need to ptex it or not.out filled up with wax and is now only noticeable when looking and feeling for it. should I just ski them and keep it waxed or melt done ptex into it?
Is it a sidewall or base gouge? If its a sidewall gouge I'd clean the wax out really well (or else the repair won't work) and then buy some hobby epoxy (something like g-flex) and then fill the area with it. Tape the base around this area before you fill it to prevent getting epoxy on the base.
If its a base gouge and it isn't deep at all then wax is probably adequate. If it looks like its close to core shot territory, then I would fill it using a ptex candle.
Good luck with the repair, post up pics to clarify if you can!
Its on the base. It was just enough that sliding my thumb in I could feel the inside of the edge. Wax seemed to fill it in. we'll see what happens next time I go out. Thanks +k
Yeah I have a few small indents on my base and as long as you keep an eye on them then your safe. The wax will protect it nicely. I it somehow ever worsens then I'd consider filling it with a ptex candle. Doesn't sound necessary though.
