Should I Plead Innocent?

So I was stopped behind a girl in front of the school. My friend pointed out a large amount of police cars and it distracted me. I looked left and accidently let my foot off of the brake. I was in neutral and the road sits on a shallow hill. I rolled very slowly (2-3 mph) into the car in front of me. I got a $90 ticket for "following too closely." As the car in front of me was parked/stopped, I was not "fallowing" so to speak. Should I go to court on the 18th to fight the ticket?
Also, I am 15 and have had no tickets or accidents until now. As I am 15, I cannot afford this ticket and the rise in my insurance. I am paying for the very minimal damage done to the car I rolled into out of my pocket to avoid an insurance claim. If I get the ticket voided, I pay nothing. If I lose the court hearing, I pay the ticket+court fees. What should I do? Will it being Christmas time help my chances?

just pay the ticket, going into court with the excuses you have will just make them up the ticket more. You could have gotten ALOT worse.

Why don't you just pay the ticket and go to court pleading for a deferral? You will probably have to pay around $120, but it will take the ticket off of your record if you don't get another one within a year.

Write a letter to the court saying u can't come on the original court date and they will schedule you for a later date. In my experience, cops rarely show up on the second date

However flawed the states logic may be, it is the law. 15=driving age. 16=manual labor law. I get a job at our local ski shop next month. So calm your tits.

go to court odds are the cop wont even show up for the court date. You wouldn't believe the shit my friends have gotten out of it simply because the cop just didn't show its always worth trying.

have what on your record? a traffic violation? tough titties, maybe you should have thought about that before you drove into someone.

if you cant afford the consequences of driving irresponsibly, getting a ticket, and having to pay for higher insurance, you shouldnt be driving to begin with. driving is not a RIGHT, it is a PRIVILEGE. you took advantage of that privilege and now you have to live with the consequences. if your ability to drive was so integral to being able to attend your current highschool, you should probably have been more careful to begin with.

pay your ticket, appreciate that the officer most definitely COULD have buttfucked you instead of giving you a $90 ticket, and make a deal with your parents to pay for the SMALL increase in your insurance. take responsibility, realize how lucky you are, learn from your mistakes, move on.

yes actually, i have been hit by another vehicle, i have gotten tickets, i have been involved in accidentally breaking a stranger's rear side passenger window. i didnt bitch and moan about it and try take advantage of the officer doing me a favor and in some cases letting me off easier than what i could have been given. in fact, just this summer i received a letter from ICBC stating that because i had gotten two tickets in the span of one year, that i owed them an additional $300 because i was an "at risk" driver. does that suck? yes, that meant i was out $300 that i had otherwise budgeted into textbooks and tuition, did i complain and whine about it on the internet and ask if i should try and fight a ticket that i had otherwise already been let off easy for? no.

suck it up, dont assume that youre some special case and we should feel sorry for you due to your lack of attentiveness at the wheel.

Do not go to court for 1,000,000 reasons I don't care to address. Just pay it, $90 is not that much in the grand scheme of things. It's just enough money to make you pissed off you can't look left and put your foot on a brake at the same time.

My first and only ticket was $450. I didn't see the school zone lights behind a semi truck. Doesn't matter, I was in a school zone going 20 over. You learn the hard way to be better sometimes, and that sucked to pay off as a 16 year old.

OP: Your biggest problem is that you haven't accepted the advice of the people in the thread. They went about giving it in a pretty shitty way but they gave you advice, nonetheless. Arguing with them is stupid because you asked for advice.

If you really think you don't deserve the insurance hike, then fine, go to court and try your odds. When I got my ticket I didn't care about the $90. If you do, fine, borrow it from the parents. But let's focus on the insurance. Think about it this way: the reason they hike insurance when you get into an accident is because statistically if you get into one accident, more are likely to happen. You've labelled yourself as a driver who is distracted. It doesn't matter how small the incident was. It happened, because of you. Therefore, in all "fairness" you probably should have an insurance increase. A better driver, not deserving of an insurance hike, wouldn't have rolled into the car in front of them.

Sorry man, but that's how it is. Like I said, try your chances if you want. I got lucky with my ticket, going about 20 over but in a state that didn't report it to my state's DMV, so my insurance never found out about it. They most certainly should have, though, but nonetheless I paid my ticket no questions asked. Live and learn, that's all you can really do.

Ok, first off, this thread is hilarious.

secondly, may I ask why you made this thread? You're pretty much shut down (rudely, I might add) anyone who told you to pay the fine instead of court. You seam to want to fight the ticket, and if that's the case, why bother asking our opinion if you don't want to hear the other side?

As long as I'm adding to this, I guess I'll give you some advice too. I say you buy a gun (fuck it, steal a gun), get in your car and get your ass to Mexico. Trust me, shit's only going to get worse from here. Get out of the country before it's too late.
