Wow, what a completely false generalization. Where I go to school almost everyone hunts, and I can safely say that MOST of them are not douche bags. Yes there are a select few that are cocky about it, but I wouldn't even call them douche bags.

Are they actually hunters, or just kids who wear camo and think they are hunters? If its the latter, then they are most likely douches. If it's the former, than you are most likely the douche.

I, along with a significant percentage of the population up here, have subsistance hunted my entire life. With the exception of a small percentage, most hunters I've met are great people.

I agree 100%.  I know maybe a handful of people who fall into the exception category. Most people i know who subsistence hunt have more respect for wildlife than people who dont hunt at all.  Subsistence hunting is something that i have known since before i could walk and something that hopefully i can pass onto my children.  Knowing i can help put at least a winters worth of food on the table, for me and my family, is such a rewarding experience.  Call me a redneck douchebag if you like, i just feel like most of the first world civilization has lost touch with nature. 

This is a caribou that I harvested a couple years ago and it's meat fed five people for almost a full year.  I am very grateful to the animal for giving its life in order to do that.

Personally, I'd rather put in hard work and eat something I hunted in their own environment than buy something off a shelf that was put in a pen and slaughtered. It's as fair as it can get in this day and age, especially if you challenge yourself with a bow!
