this sucks. now I am going onto their store and buying something from them. I have always enjoyed their movies but never have supported them in any way. too little too late i guess. voleurz movies were definitely my favorite.

Contributing factor might be true. With the size of their team that branched over not only from skiing but in skate and snowboarding culture as well they had a decent presence in the industry. Not to mention the free movies that they released. I think their probable downfall was due to not really expanding outside of the limitations of the industry and not the industry itself. They had a huge presence in the industry and probably could've expanded outwards if they really wanted to.

I agree with what you're saying, but we need to qualify what is meant by a 'decent presence' or 'huge presence' (you used both) in the industry. Amer Sports and Jarden/K2 have a huge presence in the industry, Voleurz doesn't/didn't.

For some perspective, my friend is the women's billabong ambassador for Empire boardshop, which is one of the largest skate/snowboard retailers in Quebec. She has never heard of Voleurz.

Look at it like its a new beginning, as cliché as that sounds. Harvey (and other designers I don't know) will most likely getting jobs somewhere in the fashion industry, seeing as they designed for a small but successful brand for almost a decade. The team they had is definitely talented enough to find other companies willing to film them and the filmers themselves, with some initiative, will find other filming jobs.

Atleast they had the foresight to evaluate themselves and stop before they actually went to the dumps and now they have time to transition.

Ahh this sucks so much! So sad to see them go.

Loved the movies each year and they were hands down my favorite clothing option.

With so many people insanely sad that Voleurz is going away.... did you buy all kinds of their gear or just like the company?

buy their clothes or buy the movies they released for free?

I liked the movies and they were free, would buy but were free so idk really where to go with this. The clothes, apparently to some users they were expensive but personally, i didnt have too much of an interest one way or the other. even if the films were cheap on itunes i probably wouldve bought but thats just the way their business model was.

I must confess I did not buy anything from them. Being as I am in Europe and postage out here is an utter dick to add on I feel I have an excuse.

However, that being said I would have bought something from them if they had a European Store much like Inspired have through Downdays.

My high opinion of them mainly came through the movies, which since Outdoor Education have been some of my favourite movies year in, year out and the attitude that they have to the sport - everyone being part of a crew regardless of what's strapped to their feet, riding hard, and always, ALWAYS having fun (and maybe some crazy drunken antics thrown in too).

So I am partly guilty for not physically giving them money, but I still feel that they represented a significant part of the development of my attitude to skiing and for that I am thankful to them and so I am sad to see them go.

My word usage might of been a bit off but my point is relatively the same.

If you look at the team of athletes most of the names were quite big, or at least in my eyes. And with them being in a few types of action sports it increased their presence more.

As your friend who is the women's Billabong ambassador doesn't really mean much to me seeing as Billabong really isn't a core brand in my opinion and even in the skate community has seemed to branch out from the roots. I wore Billabong when I was younger but that's because its what I could easily get from Zummiez or JC Penny. Even though she works at a one of the largest board shops it probably wasn't her job to know a brand besides the one she was being an ambassador for. Granted I do not know you friends or what her priorities for. I also bet that your friends doesn't know anything about Jibeirsh and most would agree while not for everyone they still have a key presence in our industry.

My overall point is that even though Voleurz is reflectively small they were an important part to the industry, though being small quite a few people knew about them even in the states.

The makes me very sad. I loved watching there movies, and as much as their movies were awesome, the clothing is even better. I have 2 sweater a t-shirt and a flannel and they are all insanely comfortable and fit very well.

Tis a sad in the community.

so... how many of you kids saying "That is so sad!" have actually purchased anything Voleurz? I personally have never seen anyone wearing any of their shit out in Utah, which is a decently large ski community.

To answer your question it came down to the fact that for one their stuff was extreamly expensive. Not overpriced, but expensive. When a T shirt costs thirty five dollars and then you have to pay shipping from canada to the states thats when it starts adding up. And to be honest, i usually don't spend more then twenty bucks on a t shirt.

They had some sick stuff i wanted to buy, but at the cost they had it posted at, i couldn't justify purchasing it. Also they had their movies for free. I have loved their movies, but I think if they charged some money for a itunes copy or whatnot, i think they could've had some profit margin in there.

I loved their movies and edits, but I can't afford $35 dollar tee shirts and $100 hoodies + shipping. Especially since their clothing wasn't over the top amazing and super creative to make it worth being extremely expensive. even if I did have money to piss away I probably wouldn't blow it on their clothing, a $35 dollar tee shirt better be something spectacular. (which is why I have own a couple jiberish tees)

I think a lot of people in this thread are in the same boat as me. liked the companies movies and vibe, but weren't willing to put up money for overpriced clothing.

I think this is the interesting point though... in my opinion their stuff was every bit as rad as Jiberish. I agree on the canada shipping thing, and can get that - but it was very high quality and high fashion stuff.

You pay for Jiberish - but why not Voleurz? What made them different to you?

They each have their pros and cons. Voleurz never blew up like jiberish because i think they were limited to certain things. Jiberish's line is HUGE and there is ton to choose from. Voleurz and Jiberish also have pretty different styles. Not to mention, voleurz being in canada doesnt help their case at all either.

I just liked how jiberish used to make tees will full graphics instead of just logos. jiberish is now similar to voleurz in my opinion, trendy street clothing with their logos on it.

I would have to say the style of clothes maybe? I feel like Jiberish took off because of what they used to make. Big ass graphic hoodies and stuff and popularity grew from there. They now seem to be moving in a more streetwear type direction like Voleurz. Maybe it was just bad timing/not enough exposure.

I think a lot of it has to do with the riders associated with it.
All the Chug Life guys seemed to be started off with Voleurz, but they kind of seemed to have fallen off the face of the earth lately. Plus being Canadian, there is a smaller fan base, as opposed to if it was mostly in the U.S.

Jiberish is out of Denver which is a hugely dense hub, and has been growing on the urban scene. They picked up big riders early on like Wallisch, Walker, Hornbeck, etc. and kids followed them more and went towards the group they 'repped'.

As for Voleurz, I got a used hoodie off of BST, but nothing ever from their store. Its too expensive to pay for shipping and would take too long.

I guess the "in canada" thing was just an extra. It is defiantly a pain in the ass ordering from a small retailer in canada. And im sure you guys knew that, hence the move of the NS store. But really, the reason i never really bought direct from them is because its to expensive. Jiberish is also expensive. However, a billion people on here swear buy it, so i had to try it out. I have 1 piece of jiberish and prrobably wont buy another one. Quality is fabulous, but i dont know how anyone justifys spending any more than 60 bucks on a sweatshirt. There defiantly are a few pieces of volueurz i like. All of which were sold out or 90 bucks, which in my head, is obsurd for a sweatshirt. They have a simplier style than jiberish as well. Personally for me, i like this. Thats why i said there are pros to each clothing. However, most of the NS community is in deep love with flamboyant jiberish.

Lol @ people getting angry about posts saying it was overpriced - given the number of people on this thread saying "ohh emm gee, so sad to see voleurz go, loved the company, never gave them a penny though" pretty much speaks for itself.

I'll be sad to see the films go, but apart from that it will have no effect on me what so ever. I'm not surprised, they seemed to have a pretty small industry presence outwith this community.
