Thats right. This Elysia Chlorotica not only steals chloroplasts from it's algae food source instead of digesting the chloroplasts,but it also has the DNA capability to use them. After a certain point, once they have eaten enough algae, these slugs no longer need to eat and can survive solely of photosythesizing. Check it out.

But it cant photosynthesize at birth. It only gain this ability from eating the aglae.

There are other types of animal life that can photosynthesize, such as certain types of jellyfish and sea anemones. Science is cool like that.
