Classical Music and the Brain
Music is the universal language that all humans share, yet its value is more than what meets the ear. Music is worth its weight in gold, yet its value is often taken for granted, as multitudes of people understand it solely for its rhythm, harmony and tempo. However, it is markedly more than just a beat or an appreciation for entertainment. Specifically, the elegance and movement of classical music uplifts emotions of serenity and happiness, which simultaneously stimulates the brain. Through these feelings and stirred emotions, one can observe a real strengthening in cognitive skills, a true value to one’s academic success. This success is not dependent upon whether or not one can sing well or play a musical instrument. It is rather the ability to be able to sit and listen. Listening to and/or performing Classical musical compositions improves the brains intellectual flow resulting in enhanced spatial-temporal reasoning, academic achievement and emotional well-being.
