Photography Objects and What They Mean

I'm pretty much completely new to photography and im thinking about getting into it. I just have a few questions regarding this...
1) Why must one need to get a point/shoot camera and a digital camcorder, and not just be able to use one piece?
2) What is a camcorder compared to a dslr?
3) Does the type of computer you have greatly effect what type of editing software you can get?

1 you don't, its just that if you want to be able to shoot half decent video, a point and shoot won't cut it. A DSLR can do both (if you invest in the right lenses and stuff).
2 not sure what the exact difference is in image quality and all (obviously a dslr is more depth of field and you have more control over all of the settings) between them. A dslr is only worth it if you invest like $1000+ in good lenses and tripods and stuff.
3 For mac, you can get either fcp or adobe cs6 (or vegas I think, i dont use vegas so idk) and on windows you can only use adobe or vegas, not fcp. I believe that fcp is the only one that only works on one OS. Also, obviously a more powerful computer is going to be faster and work better for editing

you mean less depth of field and you have less control over video settings compared to an actual camcorder.

Rly? I mean compared to an actual high end camcorder, yeah, but I assume he's talking about the cheaper sub $500 camcorders.

How much do you want to spend? Budget changes everything.

1)you don't!
2)camcorder is a pretty broad category, basically just means that they shoot video. A dslr (very generally) is a camera that you can change lenses on, you have a lot of control over photos, and depending on the camera, you can get a lot of control over video too.
3) doesn't matter at all. There are professional options on both windows and mac. I hope you're not a linux user. But even then you're probably ok.

DSLRs generally have the capability for a shallower depth of field (obviously its way overused and it totally depends on which one and which lens/aperture) than camcorders... Yeah more depth of field would probably mean a wider depth, i meant shallower.
