Probably. I started skiing with school before I had seen the xgames. I mean I saw the xgames and thought wow, that was cool. The xgames seemed to be a different contest back then. Maybe it's me.
And how has it made snowboarding "so much more affordable"? Where the hell did that come from?
You can just tell with the announcing that it's more about the noob on the couch than people involved in the sports.
Never had cable growing up and network coverage of the X games was spotty at best. What first got me into the sport was watching Jonny Moseley crush it at Nagano in 98 and then his epic dinner roll trick in Salt Lake in 2002.
I don't think I saw the first one but I watched them all after that.
Moseley did a ridiculous amount for that sport with that trick. Crazy to watch it before and after because he completely changed the game of what was allowed in that contest.
I don't hate contests. I just don't like the direction the xgames went. it wasn't a, we should have the contests on tv where the gapers can see them, they should only be deep in the back country near alta and you should have to be able to backflip just to get back there to watch.
I just don't like how watered down every aspect is other than the riding. There's greta stuff that gets thrown down at xgames, always has been, I just don't like a lot of the other stuff xgames has become.
There were a few years where they almost got rid of bmx dirt. I think there was a year where they didn't have it at all. They were fucking it hard on the coverage anyway. Cool, I saw every prelim run of skate vert, can I see 2 fucking seconds worth of highlights from bmx dirt?
Idk, I'm not hating on them for streamlining but some of the stuff was just whack. I can understand cutting some stuff when you have rockclimbing, skydiving and all kinds of stuff in there(Remember that shit back in the day)
But then they just started cutting legit things that had been really part of that sector of action sports simply to make room for new retarded shit that they could make more money off. I doubt they'd hesitate to get rid of skateboard vert and replace it with pro skateboarders riding office chairs down a hill if they thought it would make more money.
Cool so you get rid of some events to add shit like moto enduro because racing sells best. There aren't already enough motocross race circuits.
Idk. That contest can blow me. I'll watch it but I don't respect the people making the moves behind the scenes.
if this is a serious statement then I agree 100%. Sal was the shit and for the most part actually knew what was going on unlike a lotof the other x-games announcers. from what I've heard he's a super nice dude in person as well
In terms of skiing, XGames seems to show just about every run that goes down at xgames. It really hasn't changed all that much you just like to make everything sound super dramatic
Seriously, stop being so fuckin negative. It's cool to watch skiers compete. Some of the points you make are legit, it is about the gaper sitting on the couch, and money is obviously important. But that's the same as every single other athletic competition in the world. Just enjoy the good parts about it and stop being so damn whiny.
snowboarding is cheaper to get into than skiing partly because snowboarding blew up and the i dustry got way more money. freeskiing needs the same thing. and of course it's about the noob on the couch, they're the majority of people watching
Is this really true? I know that SIA puts out market research on this stuff broken down by skiing and snowboarding. I think at least part of it has to do with the technology. Ski boots and bindings are more complex and thus expensive to produce than snowboard boots and bindings.
These days yes. But there were points where they straight up skips over airing sports or bumped things for a year or even permanently.
I can't remember what years but there was a period where they didn't show any bmx dirt. Like maybe they showed the winning run in between the heats of skateboard vert prelims or something. Then one year where it got bumped.
I'm not a fruitbooter but they bump that and add all kinds of other dumb contests.
They'll pump anything and replace it with something more popular at any point.
The xgames has changed plenty over the years. Saying it hasn't is just dumb.
100% serious. The guy was awesome and as far as I'm concerned, he was the face of the X Games. Fuck all the little kids that take the naming of tricks so seriously. If they're so concerned, they should either watch the TV on mute or apply to be a sports announcer and see how well they can do it. I loved Sal's hilarious commentary and thought it made the X Games much more fun to watch. The last thing the X Games needs is to get even MORE serious.
Remember the year they did downhill skateboarding?Maybe it was a couple years. That shit was ridiculously gnarly.
I miss hearing about biker sherlock in those street luge races.
Not really pissed they cut those out, I can see streamlining to the more standard action sports, I just think it's lame to cut out sports and replace them with "skateboard pros, playing with flick trix boards" and what ever dumb sports they'll come up with.
BMX dirt is better than 95% of the other current sports in the Summer X Games. How is he being a hipster? Watching 38 different types of MOTOOOXXXX BROOOO fucking sucks, and the majority of the skateboarding events suck now. At least the rally events are kind of cool.
That's one of the sports that shaped that contest.
How about they get rid of skateboard vert and make a contest, MX riders sitting on a dino seeing how loud their bike is for 3 hours. That would be totally wicked gnarly right?
You're just pissed because I insulted your favorite tv show. That really did do down the standard tv shitters of mediocre drama for the sake of drama.
It's like that falling skies show I woke up during once. It was basically a soap opera set in some sort of battle for the world instead of a cheesy porno lighting studio in the middle of the day. Didn't make it any good.
I mean how many more dirt bike events can they ad?
Fuck it why stop there, they should get nascar involved.
I get a boner off watching sesame street but that's my business.
Why wouldn't I watch the good contests like slopestyle to see if anybody throws it down hard? Just like any contest or good edit, I'll check it out. That doesn't mean I have to like the contest itself.
