I know I'm being nit-picky, but wind is definitely not diurnal....


paige: besides a few cool concepts (like aerosol photovoltaic cells!) not much has been done on the material front to my knowledge. i believe the materials are still mostly the same, just used more efficiently and in different shapes/designs.

Ummmm yes it is? The wind generally (i guess its not 100% given every day) blows the most in the morning and at night. Unfortunately along with being a diurnal (typically) cycle, it also has serious intermittence issues that make it a non-reliable source for constant power output.

And now for some graphs that show the problems with wind power!

.....I'm not sure you know the meaning of diurnal.....

Diurnal: Active during the day. Opposite of nocturnal.

It can also mean a cycle that repeats itself daily. Theres 2 definitions for the word and one is a process which occurs during the day and the other says a process that occurs on a daily cycle.

Synonyms of Diurnal:
alternate, cyclic, intermittent, recurrent, regular etc etc.

So we're both right in a sense, I'm just referring to the other definition of the word!

To OP:
You should have enough stuff in this thread to start writing your paper! If you have any questions, i wrote a 12 page research paper for uni last week for this and received a 92% on it.
