Do any fellow students know a of a reliable online cut&paste or word document friendly plagiarism scanner?
Plagiarism is something I definitely don't want to fuck with, especially in college, and I want to make sure my paper doesn't have any controversial content. Of course, +k for good sites
I TA a few intro to poli sci classes. Some of the professors use "safe assignments" some don't. It has to be pretty egregious plagiarism for the system to flag it. However, it's pretty easy when reading through the paper to tell what students did and did not come up with on their own. Most of the time we'll just mark down minor errors but "major" issues are referred to academic affairs.
You have to be trying in order to commit a major offense, it's not something that you accidentally do or forget about.
I will also add that it's really REALLY easy to tell the difference between writing styles of different people, especially from academic type sources, and it's really easy to google stuff to check, just don't do it.
If you are going to cheat, at least pay someone to write a real paper for you. I did a bunch of this in undergrad and made a couple hundred a month from it.
