Murder Suicide at KC Chiefs practice facility

This morning a Kansas City Chiefs players has apparently committed suicide at the teams practice facility after murdering his girlfriend this morning. The player has not yet been named. Sending prayers to the Kansas City Chiefs organization and to all who were involved.

I guess the reports are saying its Linebacker Jovan Belcher and that he shot his girlfriend at a different location, Drove to the practice facility and was confronted by coaches which he then proceeded to shoot himself in front of them. Crazy shit, man.

Man, sad day to be a Chiefs fan. I could care less that we are 1-10, but this is going to just cripple the team. I hope all family, friends, and fans out there can recover from this event. Sad sad day. May he be in our prayers. Go Chiefs.

Obviously, once you kill your girlfriend, you kinda place yourself on a predetermined path to either jail time or suicide. Therefore, I can only imagine what was going through his head at the time before and after the first shooting took place. Can't wait for the details to surface. Wonder if it was concussion related...most of these sports related murders are just that (especially in the NFL)

Pretty much. no point in playing the game tomorrow but of course they will anyway. Will be interesting to see how it is handled tomorrow and if they dedicate a moment of silence to a murderer.

It would seem to me that there must be factors that led to this shit going down (personal, professional, whatever) that are deserving of sympathy. Shit like this doesn't just happen on a whim, there's some deeper issue obviously that contributed to this. Maybe I'm just a pussy or something though.

i merely linked his case in my mind to other recent high profile murder/suicide cases where pro athletes were linked to steroids (chris benoit)

regardless of why he did it, and not knowing what was actually going on in his personal life, i have to say his considering he had a 3 month old baby that he/babies mother an no longer care for, this was incredibly selfish. sure, maybe hes got some big problems, but he just fucked up that childs life far worse than his own could have been.

The saddest part of the whole story is he had. 3 month old daughter. That kid's life was dramatically altered today and you just hope she has family that can take her in. Imagine when that girl is older and she gets to read about what her Dad did....unbelievabley sad.

also not to sound insensitive towards Crennel and Pioli; what they went through must have been terrible, but it doesn't make them better at their jobs and I hope sympathyzing with them in this situation doesn't lead to their rehiring.

i swear to god if they did anything to honor this guy. he doesnt deserve it. i understand that the members of the organization will be sad, but the guy killed his girlfriend! hes a murderer! he doesnt deserve any sort of moment of silence or honoring! have a moment of silence for his girlfriend if they want to

I'm surprised no one here is talking about football as the cause. This is now four player and ex-player suicides in the last 8 months, this shit is bad news. Belcher did not have a long history of concussions in the NFL, but his actions clearly point to some very deep psychological trauma, a lot of which probably came with being a professional football player. I love football just as much as anyone, I bleed purple for my Vikes, but we can't have players dying....plain and simple.

I'm glad KC decided to take a stand against domestic abuse, I think that was definitely the right thing to do instead of directly mourning Belcher. That being said, I think Belcher certainly deserves sympathy, it takes a lot of messed up shit to make someone do something like this.

Pioli really is a joke. He was doomed the minute he thought it would be a good idea to bring Cassel with him idiot. I am a Pats fan and while Cassel did OK that one season he actually sucked so badly during the preseason that it should have been Matt Guiteirrez and not him that was Brady's backup when he got hurt. I remember me and a couple buddies being livid when Cassel hung onto the backup job that summer the day the rosters drop. And all he did was play OK with the training wheels on on a team that was undefeated the previous year Belichick never let Cassel open it up or anything it was the most simple offense ever and he did none of the stuff brady did like multiple read progressions. Guy is a bum.

Crenel was never head coach material. Decent coordinator but not a head coach.

He's been taking a lot of shit for it. I can't wait for Bryant Gumble and Real Sports to cover this as they have their own editorial discretion.

I think that it's safe to say that normal people don't kill others or themselves. It is easy from an outsiders perspective to say that he was "selfish" or only cared about himself, but we don't know what was going on in his head. Had he suffered brain trauma from playing the sport? Did he have pre-existing yet undiagnosed mental health problems? We can only hope to offer sympathy to both families and their friends and try and prevent incidents like this from happening again.

He was supposedly an alcoholic and had been suffering short term memory loss from concussions

Police found him at 2:30 am passed out drunk in his Bentley and let him go (likely bc he was a Chiefs player) after he was apparently out with another girl

Some people are criticizing the local news for protecting the police

After he killer her he kissed her on the head and apologized to her, his mother, and his daughter

Went to Arrowhead and admited it then thanked Pioli and Crenel, asked Pioli and the owner Clark Hunt to take care of his daughter

Heard the police sirens and walked behind his Bentley, got on his knees, did the catholic cross thing on his chest and killed himself



none of that is really offical I guess theres a lot of different conflicting stories
