Question: Would it be a bad move to use used songs for marketing purposes?

Scenario: I signed a contract which under I will be making videos portraying certain aspects of MSLM's parks. My dilemma is short and sweet; I can't find any music that will fit both what the resort and I would like in a video, except some songs that have been used before. Should I go ahead and use them, considering I am marketing towards the average joe as oppose to the core skiing community?

Generally, I try to stay away from using songs that other people have, but in this case I kind of feel the need for exception.. Give me your opinion on the matter!

What do they want to use? What do you want to use?


MSLM probably wants music appropriate for a mommy or daddy to show their 10 year old kid to excite him for the ski weekend. Keep that in mind.

Well you see, I was made sure that I would be appropriating towards the older, a little more experienced, weekend warrior type crowd. It's written in my contract. Obviously no swearing and bad references, but you get my point.

As far as what they will be using it for, it's looking like social media promotion, possibly advertisements as a separate deal later on. I would like to use some more, I dunno how to describe it, modern music? Basically, the marketing rep has been sending me like Electric Light Orchestra and such, I'm really trying to find a happy median.

I would try something like Chiddy Bang and just use the clean version usually has maybe 1 swear in a song but most dont have bad references and im not sure of anyone else but I think they could sound pretty good in promoting your mountain

seeing as how you signed a contract and what not and im assuming your getting paid, you really shouldn't use any copyright music. that being said, i would just try and find the best songs of the bunch that he keeps sending you because at least one person already approves of it.

as far as using songs that have already been used....red bull + sail = 86.9% of all of their youtube videos. and the same sports use them over and over. then think of how you react to seeing that video. if its in a super popular edit or something that lots of people have seen, i wouldn't use it. even gopro commercials on tv get old when they use electro songs aka the kayaking one with the gopro 2 and twixtor. annoys me. thats my opinion.

basically i would avoid re-using unless its from an edit some 13 yr old made and his friends are the only views

Look harder, try blog sites like hypem, music sorting and finding sites like pandora, soundcloud, or shazam, there are so many resources out there to find new music!
