Climbing Skins

Climbing skins are not specific to the ski (although k2 makes pre-cut skins for their skis). I would recommend getting some black diamond or g3 skins. Just get them the width that best suits the widest part of your ski and cut them, its pretty easy.

Oh, and make sure to get the right length of skins! You would need a size large in g3 skins. Thats what I have.

You will have to buy and cut skins yourself for the R2 122, however that shouldn't be a huge problem as their dimensions (142-122-132) aren't too outlandish. Two brands mentioned above were G3 and BlackDiamond. Out of the two for the r2 122 I think prephaps G3 maybe a better choice, due to the size of the r2 122's tip. Due to the adjustable nature of the tip connecters on the G3, I would pick a pair of G3s over BDs, as with BDs you may need to purche an XWide tip loop. As for size taking into consideration the dimension either a 130Long or 140Long from G3 would suit, depending on how much coverage you think you need.

Sorry about the dub post ... I presume since your riding a ski like the Salomon r2 122, you're more about the descent than the ascent. And thus the bindings which would suit you best would be a binding like a duke, which is essentially an alpine binding with a Walk Mode. Currently on the market, there an increasing number of products in this catagory.

I would recommend the BD Ascension skins (the bright orange ones). They are nylon, which means good durability and holding power on snow. I have these for my Caylors, which have similar dimensions (wider tip and tail though), and they work great. There are two skin widths that would work for the R2s: 125mm and 140mm. I bought the 140s for my Caylors, but the 125s would be fine for you. It comes down to how much of the tip and tail bases you want covered by the skin and how much cutting you want to do.

As for binders, it seems like you are more down-oriented, as JVD pointed out. The options that would work for that are:
Dukes - ~2700 g
Guardian/Tracker - 3000 g
MFD (+ FKS) - 3300 g

The differences in weights may be somewhat noticeable, but doing something like changing to Intuition liners would make up the difference (I saved ~400 g by using the Pro Tour liner in my Dynafit boots). Each binder setup has its advantages and drawbacks, but in the end they all do the same job. I can only speak for the MFD and Duke at this point, though:

MFD: Heavy but super solid. It was a drag sometimes on the skin, but once at the top I always forgot about it and ripped on the way down. This combo will put you to work though.

Duke: I have only a couple days on these. I liked that it was the first (and for a while, only) binder that felt decent on lift serve days but was also capable of skinning. Average performance. I did not like the riser setup and that you had to take the ski off to transition. I like fast transitions. I did feel a little play in the toe, but most of the time it was not an issue. They seem to work for a lot of people, but I'm not a fan of Marker because of binder issues I've had in the past. I cannot speak to the 'new' toe piece and mounting pattern (wider) at this time.

Anybody have $.02 on the Tracker?

Don't have a pair of Trackers myself but I've been thinking of picking up a pair. Most of the reviews I've read haven't been too keen on them. Seems as though they are flimsy, release your boot easily, and put you up pretty high. However, it's still a lot cheaper than picking up a full AT setup... Most of the reviews recommend "putting your $ towards AT bindings" which isn't necessarily practical for some quivers. Seems to be a decent way to get by with what you have, I just wouldn't expect a lot out of them. It's probably a solid way to go if you want to dabble in touring or just go out and set up a kicker in the middle of nowhere once a month. Anything more frequent/technical/high intensity and they'll probably just piss you off.
