Surface New Life vs. Moment Ghost Chant

Which floats better? Which is better for slackcountry? What do you think will have a higher resale value in 2 years? Mounting with Salomon Guardian if it makes a difference. Thanks in advance!

i have skied my new Ghost Chants once this month. The conditions weren't ideal for them but i still really liked them

haven't skied either so I can't answer most of your questions, but I have done a lot of shopping on ebay lately and I'm pretty confident the Moments will have higher resale value.

I have new lifes and my brother has ghost chants. I love both skis but their pretty different when it comes to how they ride. New lifes are stiff and chargy, but still playful when you want it to be. The ghost chants on the other hand are soft and really playful, this years are a little stiffer than the lasts. Ghost chants are also less hooky in crud and heavier snow with all the early taper. New lifes have no early taper and can hook sometimes. When it comes down to it their both bomber skis that are light for their size and it depends on how you want the ski to perform.

the new life is a better ski, but not the best resale value and durability is questionable.

^This ... OP, the skis are similar in the sense they are both backcountry jib skis. Although both are symetrical 139-124-139 for the Ghost Chants and 151-121-151 for the New Lifes, the sidecut radius differs greatly as I am sure you can see, 34m @186 and 16.5 @184 respectively. Another characterist which differs greatly is the flex which Surface rates the New Life at 9.5/10 in a 194. Where as the Ghost Chant is one of Moments softer flexing skis, compared to other skis they manafacture such as the Bibby Pro or the Night Train.

Yeah, I know I'm almost comparing apples to oranges:/ can the New Life draw out wide turns like the Ghost Chant though?

how bout the night trains vs the ghost chant and new life? i know its stiffer than the ghost chant but is it still a fairly soft or mid flexing ski? i like that it has a little less rocker but still flat underfoot, the ghost chants rocker is huge! i ski my powder skis in the park a lot so it would be nice to at least have a tail to pop off on hardpack..

The night trains are more comparable to new lifes in my opinion besides not being symmetrical. They are a little softer than new lifes but still stiff enough charge. My friend has a pair and he loves them. Rides them for everything here in michigan and when he goes out to colorado.

Yes the new lifes can still make big turns when you want them too and feel stable.

im tryin to get a feeling of how stiff these skis are, like are new lifes stiff stiff? as in you lean on the tip/tails hard and the ski might flex a tiny bit but pretty much doesnt do shit? or, you can still butter it and get the ski to flex a bit, but its just stiff for a jib powder ski?

ive pretty much accepted that im not gonna be able to get the combination of flex, width, weight, NO dual camber, and the right rocker profile that the hellbents/ ep pro's had (id just get bents again but i want to try something new) the ghost chants seem like the closest, but i dont really like the massive amount of rocker they have, looks like a lot more than hellbents even, and i want at least some platform for landing/popping and buttering since ill be skiing in the park a bit with them.

so im willing to settle with something thats still a little bit flexy and can still sorta butter.

got the new lifes, stiffer thru the middle as people have said but the 3 stage rocker makes them playful and buttery if u wanna. u'll love them

I ski the New Lifes, I came off the Atomic Bentchetler which is much much softer than the New Lifes... I was actually really scared I wasn't going to have fun on them they were so stiff. But because of the 6 degree rocker they are super playful yet they charge like no other if the snow conditions get shitty. I can't say enough about how much I like them.

Same as me then, I am 6"2 185 and ski the New Life 194. Like I said, at first all I wanted was a soft buttery ski but now that I have the stiffness I don't know if I could go back. Having the stiff tail to support you jumping and off cliffs is pretty nice.

bumping this cause im about to go with new lifes for like 300 something or labs. dont really care about price cause ill be skiing them for a couple years at least if theyre good or nothing awesome comes out in the next couple years..

but id be getting the 184 new lifes, and labs obviously would be 181(dont care about the length difference) would you see any advantage in having more width? they are pretty wide as it is, and being 194 probably not.
is it a pretty surfey ski? like can you kinda "drift" around on the snow, or is it pretty edgy, grip and corner like? one thing i liked about my ep's was how in powder you could make turns and kinda drift the ski around on top of the snow.

If you can get your hands on a pair of Labs and they will be your go to powder ski I would say do that for sure. That surf style feel will be enhanced by the labs deep dish rocker but I can still accomplish the feeling on my New Lifes.

I love my Anthony B New Lifes. Stiff for charging but shockingly playful for a stiff ski. They're symmetrical so (I think) they're made for jib-style riding in the pow which is what I love to do. The three-stage rocker and 122 underfoot waist help out. They are a great ski.
