I could understand this not being a big deal if she taught high school but she teaches 8th grade. Everything seems legit by the school, I mean if it has sexual slurs and she didn't ask permission from the school, it seems like the board has a pretty good argument to suspend her.
Fuck that little bitch who went to the office in the first place. Didn't agree with the lyrics? That's total bullshit. You'd have to be a total fucking homophobic to do something as pathetic as that.
I really thought it was a joke or something, that fact that a teacher would get suspend for a fucking song. But after i read the article, and read Macklemores comment, it seemed like it actually was real. I guess I just couldn't see it happening.
One of My old middle schools teachers got suspended for letting us watch Harry Potter. Some little bitch went and told her dad who a priest and he flipped shit because he thought it was "Satan" or something. It was so damn stupid.
Complaining is one thing but going to the principle to cry about it and narc out the teacher is just weak. That's some 2nd grade shit.
I bet the parents and the kids sunday school group are thrilled with it though.
Standing up to that whacked out liberal/homosexual agenda being forced on our students.
Have a feeling it's that because otherwise most people that don't like something simply just bitch to their friends about it. WUT at being all sneaky like a little bitch because somebody asked to play a song that you didn't like.
Tell the teacher, be like I don't agree with this. Idk, I just hate people who don't have the balls to say shit to peoples faces.
Haha damn, I asked my teacher to play this song in one class at the beginning of the year. I forget what class it was, but they played it. Nothing happened to them.
how the fuck can our society move forward when the schools that raise our youth pull shit like this, it makes me fucking pissed. The schools shouldn't be able to express their own prejudice. If i was a parent of a child attending this school, id be even more rattled.
I'm not sure how I had you at 10/10, I couldn't get to 0 fast enough. Let's all act like we were in the classroom to hear what her lesson that day was about.
This is brillance. People should get the FUCK OVER homosexuality, racial and religious issues. 7 billion people on the earth, and every since one of those has their own beliefs. This is dumber than fuck.
"I believe that Ms. Johnson getting suspended is completely out of line and unjust. However, I think it’s important for moments like these to be exposed and for us to pay attention and respond. This level of intolerance and fear is still very active in America, but at times is not completely visible. This incident is just one of tens of thousands that have happened across the country where schools have exposed a latent homophobia, preventing safe space for all young people to feel confident in being themselves. It’s clear that Ms. Johnson felt bullying and “gay bashing†were issues that needed to be addressed, and by doing so, was punished.
I wrote the song “Same Love,†not with the expectation that it would cure homophobia and lead to marriage equality across the US (although that’d be awesome). It was written with the hope that it would facilitate dialogue and through those conversations understanding and empathy would emerge. This incident demonstrates how too often we are quick to silence conversations that must be had. Even if people disagree, there is far more potential for progress when people are vocal and honestly expressing their thoughts about gay rights. When we are silent and avoid the issue, fear and hatred have a far greater life span.
It’s discouraging that a song about love and civil rights has led to a teacher getting suspended from her job. But that’s where we are at. For those of us who get a pit in our stomach when reading a story like this, it just makes it abundantly clear there is far more work to be done.
What's this showing the kids at this school about acceptance of homosexuals? Where it is so unacceptable that if a teacher playing a song related to equality for all people that they are banned from the school. I mean I understand that teachers should not force peoples opinions but this is just ridiculouse, the teacher is showing their opinion on an issue, students can choose their own.
Honestly the song does bash the right wing a little and make fun of religion. But it is rediculus to ban a teacher for only playing a song that a student asked her to play.
That would be like you getting in trouble from your parents for putting on a bad song that your sibling told you to play. Not your fault.
She teaches a music class... what is she supposed to run it through administration every time she wants to play a song? That would work well...
