Ya Kirkwood was sick last week when no other resort was open. Yes due to the wet snow some of the runs the snow was too hard and like skating rinks but chair 11 was seriously awesome (maybe not the enterance to the wall lol even tho it was fun to watch) and yes chair 6 blew. The poor snow actually reminded me of what the alps is like between storms...minus tons of rocks I seriously haven't hit one all year in 8 days of skiing the wood. But thats as bad as it ever gets at Kirkwood and it was still solid.
I am honestly more worried that Kirkwood won't have enough staff handy to open chair 4 than there is a washout. 80-90% sure our base is getting sorted for the winter this weekend.
So heady that Kirkwood is on the epic pass too.
The ONLY downside to Tahoe snow is that the area is just warm enough that you can't 100% bank on prime conditions for christmas break. Growing up me and my Dad had to do Utah a couple years for this reason since the snow sucked. But only Utah is significantly better. Whistler/Colorado/JH can all be hit or miss.
And I got off the plane in the airport today in Boston and it felt like I was returning from Miami stepping out into the cold since the Reno/Tahoe area is really mild and nice at lake level or over in the desert. Its really nice to not freeze your balls off ever or have to bundle up.
