Blew Prematurely....

Snow Summit and Bear Mountain started making snow the week after Halloween and have been open a few weeks now. Well, it got warm in Big Bear so Snow Summit has had to CLOSE. They cannot make more snow and open back up until they get some natural snow. Bear is still open but barely....

Did anyone else's mountain start making snow too early and have to close again after starting the season?

my local hill opened 1 run on remembrance day and have kept it open and now they're starting to blow more snow and open more runs, seems like a good system to me

it was worth it for my 1 day up there ;) was going to go again yesterday but w/o summit bear isn't worth it for the snake park run and lift lines.

it will be back soon

You make it sound so negative. Our hill has opened twice this autumn, and then had to close. But they actually put some effort to get every possible ski day out of the frosts that came, and i was really stoked on that. Usually they just wait for the actual winter to start around this time.

I think the title "blue balled" would have been more fitting because now that the mountain is closed, you're just going to go home and finish what you started.

Bear was actually pretty fun last weekend. The lines sucked, but considering what they had to work with they did a sick job. I'd rather them have been open and have to close than not be open at all. There is not time I can think of when I would prefer a mountain NOT be open.

Also....the title is classic.

this happens all the time in minnesota. hills will make large amounts of money even if they open half a run for one day, so some hills blow snow every time the night temps get below freezing, even if temps are projected to be above freezing the rest of the week. cant complain though, it means maximum skiing time

last year, my home mountain (june mountain) had only enough snow for two runs for almost a month, it later pulled through with miracles of snow. But its shut down this year, so i have to ski shitty ass mammoth where there is probably 10% real snow if not less

Still cold in Canada. They have been blowing all month ;). Opened 4 weeks ago and are opening new terrain everyday.

Also would rather a mountain open then have to close due to lack of snow than not open at all!
