Hello NS! I am doing a business plan project in school and I just thought I would ask to see the perspective of some fellow skiers, rather than just my own. I am looking at creating a summer jib setup. Imagine a very well built drop in, rail, landing, and quality material to ski on. The rail setup would change weekly and the atmosphere of the place would be for friends who ski together to come out and ride-a mellow and fun vibe. Hopefully this is enough information to answer the following questions.
-Would you spend $5, $10, $20 to go and ride for a few hours?
-How many times could you imagine yourself using this service?-weekly, monthly, never, or other?
-How far would you be willing to travel to go hang with some buddies and ski for a few hours in the summer?
-Is this a viable idea in your eyes?

I'll be honest, I am not a park type of skier when I do get to go skiing but even the guys I know that either ski or snowboard the park a ton in the summer are usually so busy using their money for other things like paintballing, 4wheeling, skating, or MT Biking that I doubt they would be willing to spend almost any money to use home-made set ups.

It's a cool idea and seems like a cool way to make some spending cash but I just don't know of many people that will be wanting to spend money to ski a rail in the summers when they could be using the money for other summer activities.

it would have to be a lot more than one feature for it to really garner much interest / popularity. especially if you want more than 5 "customers" at a time.

I'd pay 10 dollars. Would drive more than half an hour because I can easily build one myself. It would be good If there were multiple rails, or someway to keep lines short. I know there are places that are entire dry mountains and those I would definitely drive to and pay for because its more like skiing. Also I would go maybe 2 to 3 times a month depending on price and how far it was and how often the rails changed

-Yes I think this is a sick idea!
If you made like an all summer pass or something that would be pretty cool but I think this is a cool idea.

@Mr.Panda: I agree with you on the fact that other people are more busy spending money on other things. It would be higher quality than a home made set up for sure. If it is close to home, cheap, and only open a few sessions a week, do you think I could bring some of these passionate summer sports kids out?
@yuck: Unfortunately I think I would have to raise capital before I can go and make more than one feature.
@Stose: I could not see the lines getting to intense, especially if I was able to purchase a trampoline and additional lines. I agree with you on the variables that could affect your decision.
@The.Pope: Ya I could see a seasons pass being possible for sure!

In a situation like that yes. I do think what another poster said about needing maybe more than just one rail (at least in the future) would not be a bad idea.

I would say about $10, and weekly to biweekly depending on how good the set up was. Probably no more than 2 hours. Also the price would fluctuate depending on how good the set up was.

i was considering doing this, but in all honesty it depends, like ill pay a normal ticket price for some place like liberty, and if its like a one hit rail or something probably $10 to $25.

I'd probably spend $5 or $10 for a few hours, but you should add more than one feature at once. I could probably do it like once a week depending on how far away it was. Once per week if its was 45+ min, any less and maybe twice. If you get a lot of features, I might go about 2 or 3 hours away in the summer with some friends and stay a hotel to hit it up every day for like a week. It's a pretty good idea, but you should really try to make as many features as possible, maybe even an airbag setup.

id drive an hour if it was like 5 bucks an hour or 20 bucks for the day

Probably weekly if the sphere is good. Like mentioned before depends on how many features and how many people can use it at the same time. But max 20 dollars for a few hours and a season pass is always handy.

I'm sorry to ruin this for you, but unfortunately this is the real world. In the real world, one needs liability insurance for something like this. Liability insurance is very expensive. You would also need to be a licensed company. That means you need a place to do this that is licensed for such (not your backyard). Doing what you are proposing and opening it up to the general public is a very bad/illegal/could harm your entire future idea. In short, you would need financial backing in the six figure range, which is obviously not going to happen for a few homemade rails and a drop-in.
