I bet 95% of these trucks have not been on anything more than a dirt road. The majority of full sized lifted trucks are useless and used as "mall crawlers"

its only one hole in the bed, its a single through the bed and then a t pipe.

and a stack is not useless at all, ndhra (national diesel hotrod association) racers need one. the soot from a diesel will 'fog' the timing system on drag strips making it so your times are no good. the infared timing system picks up the soot and thinks that is the vehicle so a stack eliminates that problem.

Not to mention if you truly tow A LOT and have tall enough stacks they keep your trailer free of soot

daaamn good luck with the build. Love the blue. Looks like you stripped her right down and doing it right. did you do a complete cab off strip? I had a chance to get a free hoist from a Ford dealership after wiring up 4 new ones. I passed it up having no real garage to use it. kicking myself now, a hoist would be so dumb sick, this one could even lift the body off the frame.

Also it's funny that an FJ was posted in here as well, because I really wanted one, but then I got to thinking, why the fuck spend 40k on a vehicle, when I could get the enjoyment out of building one for less. And you can't beat solid axels and Ford 9inches diffs, and just the fact that my dad has so many parts that he's willing to part with if I build a vehicle, basically the whole driveline won't cost me anything, other then a transfer case and axel housings.

I was also thinking of buying a 335xi for a while, but had the same though, for that price I could build a factory five cobra kit car that will out perform a BMW anyway. The only problem with that is they don't ship the kit to Canada due to import laws, so I'd have to drive to the states, rent a garage to strip the necesary parts off(fuel tank, suspension and wheels if I recal correctly for it to be allowed to cross the border and drive it back)

I'd love to follow your build, do you have a build thread on any forums?

oh and I should add that a cobra would most definitely not be a daily driver, so completely impractical. Making a Bronco my #1 choice

ehh not really, stacks shouldnt exceed the top of the cab by more then 1''.


and what I have noticed is that with a stack my whole bed and top of the cab is dirty as well as the front and top of the trailer. definitely not something I would put on my DD.

Exactly. Some people just like the look of them and want to stand out. That doesn't make you a bad person if you aren't a hardcore off roader or racer. Some people just build and have the vehicles they have because they like the look. There's nothing wrong with that

Well there are these things called Jeeps, they are basically unstoppable and if you see one with a lift kit odds are its actually off roaded (unless its a JK)

how do u like the ranger lifted? i got an 01 and was contemplating lifting it a bit. However alot of ppl tell me its a bad idea for a ranger (because of gas mileage, small engine). What motor is in yours? how much is it lifted?

yeah not even gonna bother posting my TJ or any pics from my previously owned jeeps..this thread is already a shit hole with half the people posting nothing more than glorified minivans and the other half shitting on anything lifted because they don't know dick about off roading..

the only thing about JK's is that they are seriously good off road they make it so simple you can literally just point the tires and give it gas and more often than not it will go through or over most obstacles...that being said I'll still never own one - way too much plastic, way too many computers

I really REALLY need to get the engine looked at though. I take care of it by changing the oil and checking it's tranny and power steering fluid and such but it just keeps having issues.

Engine flooded Monday cause the choke wouldn't open, one of the master cylinders just had to be replaced.. So annoying.

He's talking about a different breed of drivers. I have a friend who's super into it that hates 80% of lifted trucks because their drivers can't drive for shit, never leave the pavement, and are total asshats to everyone else on the road. There's a big difference.

Well best of luck.  Older motors are cake but that doesn't mean it isn't going to be a pain to fix right. 

My advice would be to take it to an old guy.  I had a '64 chrysler Newport w/ a 383 in it that was somewhat tempermental if I left it parked too long, but one stop by the local old guy shop and she was tuned up in about 15 mins and purring like a kitten for a 12er of cheap beer.

Yeah but don't you have a windsor?  SHit man, a 351 is badass.  A rebuild would be cheaper and less retrofitting, which can drive up the cost on a swap mind blowingly quickly.  If it's just small issues, I'd fix them as I got the cash instead of tackling some huge $10k+ project, 'know?  That sort of shit sounds fun but it never works out like you want it to.  Also you'll be in so far over your head on it you'll probably hate yourself. 

Just my experience, Scouts aren't exactly Hemi 'Cudas when it comes to resale, y'know?

We would probably try to replace it with another big block motor.

We just need the money/time (since it's essentially my daily driver to school) to have a guy give it a real look over.

Simple way to know what kind of truck you need. If you don't haul but like the idea of a truck ( cargo space, off road capability, security,etc.) then get a 1500.

If you have a regular need for a truck ( trailer hauling, bike/sled/toys, small loads) then get a 2500. Gas or diesel.

If you need the used of a truck everyday ( heavy equipment, livestock, aggregate, load trailers, etc) then get a 3500. Diesel. I laugh every time I see a 3500 gas. Might as well light your wallet on fire.
