the coast mountains, baffin island, selkirks/kooteneys, canadian rockies, plus all those mountains along side ak in the yukon and bc...cant really think of anywhere in the continental us that id rather ski than any of those places
More of a comparison of the resorts in the Rockies, basically British Columbia resorts compared to Colorado resorts. I've never been to the US side, that's why I'm curious how they compare to Blackcomb, Silverstar, Big White etc.
it's really a matter of opinion. people will have a bias towards their own country and I'm sure people on NS haven't skied in both Canada and US. I've been to the states once to ski (Baker) but it was like 6 degrees celsius so their wasn't much pow skiing but it was still fun too cruise around
I ski in the US but I know anyone who says we have better mountains is wrong. BC/Alberta has copious mountains with sht tons of good snow, steeps alpine and tree skiing. Doesnt get much better
People saying that Canada has better mountains clearly hasnt seen or been to Alaska. Its overwhelming how big they are. If your excluding alaska, then interior B.C. takes the cake.
For overall consistency just from what I have seen online and personal experience etc.. I think Canada has more awesome awesome mountains, you guys do have Jackson and Alta though.
I'd say us has more park as compared to Canada while Canada has more pow. Yes i know whistler has possibly the best park but there aren't that many others
Except for California and Colorado, I've skied just about every major ski hill in Western North America. Canada has bigger, steeper, gnarlier mountains. Whistler, Revelstoke, and Kicking Horse are on another level. The only places in the states coming close are Jackson Hole and maybe Baker.
I have been lucky enough to have deep pow days at most major resorts that are considered to have fantastic terrain. I was let down by skiing in Utah. Amazing snow, and tons of it but tiny hills with low vert.
I want to go there over Christmas sooo badly now. I've been there mountain biking, but half of the trails were hiking only, and the mountain biking trails were pretty restricted to one spot. It wasn't busy at all compared to Fernie or Whistler, so I'm hoping that's what it is like in winter too. Also, the lift prices are more reasonable.
i moved from whistler to Kicking Horse. Although I haven't been to co. and utah I would argue that kicking horse is the best. Jackson hole is the only one I have heard comparisons to. And while jackson is busy as all hell, kicking horses busiest day was just over 3000 people.
Can't beat that. Steep as fuck. good skiing right to the base, unlike revy and whistler. gondola that takes you all the way up in 14 minutes. goes above 0 maybe once or twice throughout the winter so the snow is consistent. the last two years have been big snow years which takes care of the only issue that kh ever could have,
oh and the slack country makes it take the cake no matter what
resort wise prob US just cause we have a good number of big mountains Canada doesnt seem to have as many but their mountains in general seem bigger and better than most of the us
This exactly. That gondola is fast as hell and, I don't care if this makes me sound gay, the scenery is amazing. Also, it's further from the coast which, like you said, regulates the temperature better. Also, people in Golden are super friendly, and it's an overall awesome destination. I gotta stop reading this thread, I'm getting way too excited for KH.
