I have a fear of trying any trick that involves going upside down. What tips/tricks can I use to help get over my fear? I can 3,5,7 but I just can't get myself to try it!
I was scared, tried it anyway, then hurt myself and now im scared again. I'm going to try again this year into some powder though, probibly wont get them to the park though. Im ok with that though I ski at my own pace ahaha
Took me way to long to do a backflip, and then first try I overshot, tucked too much and broke my wrist. So make sure you know the speed and don't just huck it. next time I did it on a jump into powder, landed it well and now I have them, they are not hard, just a little hard to commit to the first time.
definitely back. straight air the jump a few times so you have the speed on lock and visualize it each time to prep yourself. pop up, tilt your head back, drop your shoulders backwards just a little, and tuck. it will come around way easier than you think it should. do not try to get the rotation around by throwing yourself backwards since this will make you stall out and land on your head. if you keep the motion smooth it will come around. i overrotated my first few and backslapped but i'd rather have that happen than digging my tips in and eating shit
I was scared at first, but first backflip i did was on skis. Built a jump and just went for it.
Sometimes you just gotta go for it and not think about it.
id try a back first. be careful when going off the jump tho, dont throw back immediately. the motion is more of a pop and then setting your trick than just throwing back right off the jump. pop up and throw your arms/upper body back, open your hips, and spot your landing. the only scary part is when you just take off the jump, as soon as you spot your landing its easy.
Can you expand on this? If you don't start the rotation as soon as you take off, it seems like it would be an awkward two-motion trick ... like taking off, then forcing yourself back?
I havnt backflipped either but i feel like it would be something like doing a back on a tramp. You flip kind of as youre leaving the mat. So on skis i guess it would be like popping and then flipping. Or starting your flip as youre finishing your pop?
if you are scared of going completely upside down, try corks/bios first. They are easier than straight spins. My goto trick is a bio 5. easier than clean 3's for me
Trampoline, yes you will destroy your neck, yes it will hurt, but when you try it a second time you will huck hard enough to get it around. thats how everyone learns.
Definitely try a backflip first. When trying them, DON'T OVER ROTATE! From what I've seen, myself included, people learning backflips slam onto their back because they huck it way too hard.
Be calm about it, focus on throwing your head/torso back first, and your legs will follow.
I read this this as fear of fapping, needless to day I used to be the same way, and I never had access to bags or tramps, just east coast ice, then one preseason day with my friends I though fuck it, got off the lift, booked it directly to the first slushy jump, and threw a fronty before I knew what was happening. If you don't let fear kick in you can just chuck it, good luck!
this. my friend was doing backflips all day in the park yesterday and his last one he ended up getting halfway around and landing on his shoulder/neck. the doctors say it was a mild shoulder separation and that he should be back in a few week, and that his back protector kept him from a broken back
2) watch videos of little kids doing flips to remind you that it's no big deal and youre a boss
3) throw a backy next time there's a soft landing
....assuming youve done flips on tramps and stuff and know how to do it right. backies are super natural and easy, i understand being scared your first time but once you throw one you'll be pissed you didnt do it earlier!
Just launch it man, gets a million times easier after that first try.
I have them pretty much locked on jumps, but I threw one wednesday off a little side bump at big boulder with no where near enough pop and ate complete shit right under the lift. Just throw down man, show everyone how rad you are.
Same. and with no snow last year, I tried so hard all season to get a front on the only 5 foot jump there was and landed on my tails and double ejected every time
