Question on a ski for all mountain little park blend

Looking to get a new ski this year: I'll be riding about 60 percent park 40 percent all mountain. In all mountain i will not be skiing big back country hardly at all and powder will be a rare thing. mainly groomers with the occassional pow day.


Something easy to ride and flexy and lightweight. I've been looking at few skis but nothing is set in stone. Looking to see what NS recomends. Open to all brands and all price ranges

If you have the occasional pow day then maybe check out the Blends. Relatively wide, pretty good for park too from what I hear but I'm not too sure about how well they hold up on groomers.

Pow day will happen maybe like once or twice a month. So not all that often.

Blends are super fun but if you rarely get powder I would go with a narrower ski, like Lines Chronic's.

How do the chronics handle outside the park though. i've noticed that they are mainly focusing on park style from what i have seen personally. But i haven't riden. What would that be like in say crud, groomers or anything else? Also is there any difference in this years chronics in compairsion to last yeras. Particularly how they ride? Are they stiffer or what? Because I know they got lighter thats for sure.

1. Atomic Theory

-cambered, with very subtle tip and tail rocker for crud, and some pow (all mountain rocker)
-Light Weight
-Good Construction
-Park is doable
-$499 (might be able to get a better deal)


Anyways I have these and love them. They are the perfect all mountain ski. Charge groomers, will handle fine in resort pow and crud and will float nicely, and are light enough to have fun in the park. These wouldn't be your go to pow ski obviously, cuz no all mtn ski is that, but for lighter pow days (<2ft) you'll be happy.


2. Armada ARV

-2.5 edges for park
-Med flex pattern

-geared more for park than the theory



My consensus: I was stuck between these two skis and ended up with the Theory's. I look at it this way. The Theory's are an all mountain that are leaning to more skiing all mountain with some in the park. The ARV's are leaning towards more park skiing, but are still an all mountain ski if that makes sense. Good luck with your decision!

Thanks for the input that something great to keep in mind when searching for a new ski. Are any of these changing much between this years model and last years?

Im pretty sure the theroy is directional. I saw them at a shop and the tails are like Line's influence and prophet skis

No they're twin tips. There is rocker in the tip and tail. They are not symmetrical, but neither are the armada's. I have the Theory's…mounted them almost dead center. they are fine skiing switch and for park.

And To OP…i don't think they'll be changing much. The theory has been the same for two years, and the ARV is a staple armada ski, so it won't change either.

I have been riding solomon suspects for a like 4 years as my rock/park/beat the shit out of skis and they are absolute tanks. They handle pretty good at speed and edge ok (for not really having edges). Ya i say those

I really leaning towards the Chronics right now due to the fact that they are light and have an earily rise. However, I don't know how they handle on the some of the stuff outside the park Anyway know how they are with rideably in like crud, or under 2 feet of new snow?

I have a friend on the Chronics and he loves them! He uses them everywhere. They are his one ski quiver.

The chronics are definitely one of the more popular all mountain twins out there right now. with the added early rise thats new this year it makes them that much more of a universal twin. there is a lot of hype on these small boutique brands, but they dont have the solid/consistent construction you'll get from other brands. I would also look into the recoil/iron maiden from K2, nordica dead money, and the rossignol smash 7. a ski with sidewall is going to be a lot more stable in the crud and hard pack, so thats definitely something to consider. hope this helps!

K2 iron maiden is my choice, but the line blend and chronic are also good options. If you do a decent amount of pow go with the blend but if your more park choose the k2's or chronics.

i've been riding differente gen chronics for over 6 years now... they are def my go to ski whenever i want to dick around in the park and rip everywhere else. they will destroy crud and ski like pow ski over 2 feet of snow... specially with the added rise on the tip this year. killer skis for sure!

where will you ski this season?
