Looking to turn in an essay for english, and lately grammar has been the death of me. Is there anywhere online that you can have your paper looked over for grammar errors for free?

youre a derp at it. there arent any english gods making up rules just to make school hard for you. languages form the way they do for a reason, you just have to use your noggin a little bit to figure it out.

Well the stupid thing is at the college they do have a writing center to go get your paper looked over. However, they only check for content flow and making sure your paper doesn't sound like it was written by a five year old. They don't take the time to check to make sure that your grammar is in order. Which is something that has been killing me this past semester.

One for example, is just useing improper verb usage in the sentence. I believe some other things my professor highlighted were comma usage, and word choice. Nothing super taxing just dumb mistakes that I myself personally don't see when reviewing my paper several times.

They only check for the quick dumb mistakes. Nothing like sentence structure and improper comma usage in less noticeable mistakes.

useing - using*
usage, and - usage and*
myself personally is redundant, use either one or the other.

It seems like comma usage is a big issue for you, ask me if these don't make sense.

Have a friend read it outloud to you. Every grammatical error will be very easily recognized.

yeah...also cutting out unnecessary words:

unless you're planning on cutting out the "for," which you can if you want, it should actually be "one, for example, is," not, "one for example is"

this is one of few things I excel at in school, strong diction and grammar.

here is a self editing tip I just made up right now: try reading it in a fancy british accent and if it doesn't sound right with the accent then you're doing something wrong.

seriously? everyone with english as their primary language needs to know this stuff. billions of dollars a year get paid by us taxpayers to provide an adequate education for all children in our country. it's pathetic that people don't appreciate the privleges they are so fortunate to have. /nottryingtohatebutwtf?

i didn't say everyone should use proper grammar at all times. i said that people should know the rules of proper grammar. there is a time and place for proper grammar. on ns? unecessary.

Ok...maybe that was a little harsh, but seriously-- some people are better at certain elements in school than others. Maybe OP has a hard time with grammar but really excels in math or science. Some things don't come as easy to some as others.  Why do you think there are learning centers everywhere and the need for tutors never goes away?  I could go on-and-on but the way the education system is currently run, it does not address the fact that kids learn in different ways. We all have different learning styles, strengths, and weaknesses, is it any wonder that the current one-size-fits-all classroom doesn't work perfectly for everyone? Our schools in are so far from perfect! Way to be a jerk to the OP who was just honestly looking for a little help. How would you like it if you asked someone for help and then were ridiculed?  Not saying that he does-- but what if the OP has some sort of learning disability (not that struggling with grammar implies any such thing), but what if he did? Shame on you.

if that's not the right attitude to have then why would you post something with grammatical errors? maybe because it's ns and it doesn't really matter? formality is just that, a formality. the point i'm trying to make is that when you need to use perfect grammar you should at least have the capability to do so. not saying i use perfect grammar all the time, or that you should. i'm saying everyone who speaks english fluently should be able to write it fluently as well. if you don't agree, that's fine.

same man. i have around 40 pages of writing due by the 6th. just drank a cup of coffee for energy to get some notes done, instead I burned it all off on newschoolers and now feel like doing nothing all night.

again, what was wrong with my grammar? i'm curious. minus the obvious lack of a period at the end of my last sentence and lack of capitalization in general.

it's the wrong attitude to have because if you know the rules of grammar you should try and apply them all the time. i'm not saying you have to do it perfectly always, hence the reason i'm not going through and nit-picking the grammar of every post, but you should always at least try and get it right. saying "fuck it, i'm on the internet, i can write poorly if i want" seems like a stupid way to look at it.

Its perfectly fine. And to be honest I can attest to what Snobunny has said. You know, writing isn't my cup of tea. Why? I have no clue, but if you want to ask me how to do calculus or explain theories of physics and astronomy I'll be glad to, and can do so quite well. I do after all teach engineering, and technology to kids. I just never was great at writing a paper. Mainly because my High school teachers never put much emphasis on it.

And I appreciate those of you who would've offered to help look over my paper. I was able to get some help via a fellow NS'er and I've been able to help get quite a few mistakes fixed. So I appreciate it, but I think I should be set.
