Well, I know bushy killed it in claim, and another kid I grew up with was spinning off rails with his ACL gone. I'm gonna get a good brace for this season, and I go for, and get surgery in feb-mar. But I want days before my surgery, I've been putting the surgery off the past three months because of insurance reasons, season is starting and I wanna cruise around. What do you think?
Brad Bulzan did aspen open with no ACL. as long as he was able to land switch he was able to take the impact just fine. kid was doing sw dubs with no ACL no problem.
I skied on a blown ACL before surgery, it was fine and felt good just cruising. then my confidence got the best of me, started trying stuff, and I landed backseat off a tall box and heard a pop, the surgeon said something about scar tissue and my PCL, and I was done until the surgery. I would suggest sticking to making solid turns and save even low-impact stuff for post-op.
but talk to your doctor before considering anything
I know a couple of old school freestylers who pretty much all competed in the olympics without ACL. I did a whole season without one and it looks like I'm going to do the next one as well.
It's really up to your muscle structure and how stable your knee is. I've seen people unable to walk without ACL, and people who didn't even notice it was gone...
Just take it easy and try to make it any worse. When i was recovering from blown knee i just didnt land forward as it would absolutely KILL and strain my knee in all the wrong ways - I just did everything to switch which is a completely different impact on your knee
