I found some 179 k2 Press at a really good price ($200). My question is: is this ski really only suited for lighter riders and entry-level park skiers? I am 5'10" 180lbs and am definitely an advanced park skier. Would this ski be too noodley for me? Very tempting for the price.
$70 for a set of recoils over press's is a great deal, and the recoils will be significantly more durable. I rode my friends Recoils today and loved them.
the press is the old fujative mold with tip rocker. i wouldn't say it's a beginner ski at all. they're super playful, but i had no issues hitting larger jump lines at PC or blackcomb on them. the recoil is a bit wider and definitely stiffer, so they're two very different skis.
I demoed the iron maidens(same thing as recoils) three days ago and I wasn't impressed. They lack pop, heavy to the point of where you actually notice, and they get very squirrely at high speed. If you need a beater ski for the price I would go recoils. I wouldn't pay more than the $275 evo has them for.
Pretty sure the iron maidens don't have camber like the recoils do, the recoils will be more poppy because the have the all terrain rocker (camber with slight rocker) while the maidens have the jib rocker (just rocker)
chances are they felt heavy because you demoed them with a demo binding. demo bindings are sooooooo heavy. and lack major amounts of performance. i love my maidens (partnered with fks 180) stable at speed, poppy when i need them to be. and yes, they do have all terrain rocker so 70% camber. jib rocker still has camber, its just a low rise camber
I just got into skiing last year and i bought the k2 press thus far i have been pretty happy with the ski. I got them with a pair of free 10's for like $380 (i think) and so far the binding and the ski are holding up pretty well. Pretty much all i do on them is ride rails and park. the skis are pretty light which has made learning change ups a breeze. my only complaint is i wish the flex was more even the nose of the ski is super buttery (like its kind of ridiculous) and the tail is stiff so its not super balanced. i guess one more complaint is the top sheets got chipped up pretty fast but i expect that out of any non sidewall ski.
