no no. he was a straight up awful person. he would test biological warfare on his own towns of tens of thousands of people. Just release anthrax in the town to see what would happen and killing thousands at a time. his own people. He was straight up ruthless.
mao: petty theft and such crimes were punished by horrible death, even to children. The great leap killed millions. Destroyed 1/3 of peasants' homes to make fertilizer. Famine, blah blah
Talked about this this the other day with my grandpa and brother.
I'd have to say the Genocide against Native Americans by the settlers in this country is widely forgotten about by Americans. We came here raped, pillaged, and killed entire villages or displaced them to small pieces of land. We'd give them blankets laced with diseases that would spread and wipe out villages. I think the Genocide of Native Americans is one people forget about or choose to ignore.
I actually read a great book in high school about how Genghis Khan was in reality a great leader. In effect he was ruthless against any who resisted, but those who gave in peacefully to his rule were treated extremely well, and because the territory owned by Genghis Khan was so massive, the peace experienced under his rule was comparable to that of the Romans.
