High End Newschool Training Program

I just want to throw out an idea here...please give me you honest opinion...
The last few years have seen a lot of high calibre athletes come out of east coast ski academys, where they are trained in slopestyle and halfpipe disciplines. These kids have goals to get to the xgames, us open, wsi etc...
Now out here on the west coast, i cannot think of a program that is as extensive as what these ski academys are offering. Some mountains have Freestyle clubs (Vernon, Blackcomb) but nothing strictly devoted to 'high end' halfpipe training, slopestyle and such...
Seeing as whistler/blackcomb has one of the best terrain parks in North America, as well as some of the best training facilities that go pretty much unused, (water ramps are being neglected severley) dont you think a 'Newschool' Club of high calibre is needed? They already have an excellent and growing freesking program for groms that want to ski big lines, but there is nothing for the sean petit's, austin ross's, and such. A program where they can measure their success and view their progress through video analysis, and professional coaching by whistler professional skiers like the Chris Turpins, Mark Abmas, Rex Thomas's and such. With the resources that Whistler/Blackcomb has, I think this is a much needed program and they are fully capable of doing it, if they had the immediate intrest. This year there is also an option of night training in the new halfpipe.
Please respond with any thoughts you might have on the idea. I believe that we can breed an xgames champion from the kids that ride up here and from vancouver, if they had the infastructsure (*sp) to do so...
Id like to work with the mountain to get something like this going and would like some feed back from the kids on this site.
Thanks,
Ryan

Do it Mckeeman. We need something like this. All we got is 'Ride Tribe' but that's just a bunch of teenagers who ski recreationally because they don't want to race anymore. Then there the Blackcomb Freestyle Club but that's kind of hurting on the park and pipe side of things. We need something like the Whistler Valley Snowboard Club but for skiers. It should have coaching, dryland training, video analysis, and a class with competition preparation skills etc.

^yea austin thats what i want to do...No regulations, no federations, no sanctions, just killer local kids that want to get better than the guy who goes out by himself...
JUST LIKE the whistler valley snowboard club...if any of you are interested in what im trying to get at (DSPIN7X...) just take a look at www.whistlervalleysnowboardclub.ca
its the same format but for skiers.

I think it's a great idea. A lot of kids up here have a real passion for skiing and some great potential. It's difficult to discover potential when you spend your weekends skiing with ma and pa. Sometimes all it takes is a little encouragement from a mentor for someone to really start to progress. No one said it will take away from recreational skiing. A program like this is exactly the same as all extra curricular programs out there, soccer, hockey, figure skating dance, and the like. If a kid really likes to ski, and that's what they want to do as their sport, then this is a great opportunity.

Ryan ,that's a really good idea....you could just make it like a structured crew with you guy's as mentors or something like that..........of course your possee shreads all the time but there's deffinately kids out there with desire and skill but no connections to hook up with a very high level crew that they need to advance and evolve there skills to their highest potential........ and you're idea could provide that....
If you took some time and planned it out so you had kind of as proposal you took to the mountain , they'd be crazy to turn it down. You can help them be a more progressive mtn...........and keep expanding your own career of skiing. Get this done.

I think most of us are attracted to skiing for the FUN of it, whats the key word in freeskiing, actualy theres two but FREE, it shouldnt be competitive, it should be all about having fun, thats the perspective of most of us. If we dont have this perspective anymore our sport of freestyle skiing will be changed.

Yes but on a very small level Derek Foose and I have a program that is now in it's 5th year and we have so far turned out some good kids like the Petite Bros and Kye Petersen not to mention the new age up and comers. With Ryans Idea we can get Our program and others together to be the best if it isn't all ready.

dear concept dude
If skiing wasnt conpetitive we would never have seen the likes of Tanner Hall winner winter X over and over, see our local brotha TJ schiller blow up this past season, etcetera etcetera. Its a sport isnt it so of course its going to be competitive. About 75% of the kids on this site ski for skiing. But the other 25% or smaller want to ski for a living and come out with a career because we love it. And what better job is there than doing something you love and making money doing it. I've said my peace so lets stand by it get someone to sponsor this program and lets make it go off

Thanks for the input guys...In my previous post I said I had a meeting with the mountain today, and with Derek Foose of the WFC.
It looks like there might be a pretty good setup next year...keep your ears peeled...something good is in the works.

Derek Foose was my first instructor ever back in J4. He taught me tons of stuff and we had some sick times together. I'm stoked to hear his club is working out so nicely and I'm glad those kids have a place to go when they wanna shred the whole mountain. Then again, they're not as serious into this as I think Mckeeman is visualizing, and they're little kids.
