Replying to High End Newschool Training Program
I just want to throw out an idea here...please give me you honest opinion...
The last few years have seen a lot of high calibre athletes come out of east coast ski academys, where they are trained in slopestyle and halfpipe disciplines. These kids have goals to get to the xgames, us open, wsi etc...
Now out here on the west coast, i cannot think of a program that is as extensive as what these ski academys are offering. Some mountains have Freestyle clubs (Vernon, Blackcomb) but nothing strictly devoted to 'high end' halfpipe training, slopestyle and such...
Seeing as whistler/blackcomb has one of the best terrain parks in North America, as well as some of the best training facilities that go pretty much unused, (water ramps are being neglected severley) dont you think a 'Newschool' Club of high calibre is needed? They already have an excellent and growing freesking program for groms that want to ski big lines, but there is nothing for the sean petit's, austin ross's, and such. A program where they can measure their success and view their progress through video analysis, and professional coaching by whistler professional skiers like the Chris Turpins, Mark Abmas, Rex Thomas's and such. With the resources that Whistler/Blackcomb has, I think this is a much needed program and they are fully capable of doing it, if they had the immediate intrest. This year there is also an option of night training in the new halfpipe.
Please respond with any thoughts you might have on the idea. I believe that we can breed an xgames champion from the kids that ride up here and from vancouver, if they had the infastructsure (*sp) to do so...
Id like to work with the mountain to get something like this going and would like some feed back from the kids on this site.
Thanks,
Ryan
