Gapers and non-free riders in the park

I fucking hate it when gapers and non-free riders ski in the park. I mean it's fine if beginners are trying to learn, but just stay in control!

Today I was just in the park, standing above one of the features, about to drop, and all the sudden, I'm on my head. I get up and find some gaper, on his ass, downhill from me. Turns out, he was going straight down the hill, no turns, hit a small bump and flew directly into my legs.

Has anyone else ever had an unfortunate encounter with a gaper?

I have an idea. Kindly go up to said gaper and say, "hey, you have two options, either you go slide that rail/box, I'll teach you if you don't know how, or leave. It's unsafe for to be in the park if you don't plan on using it in the intended way."

Seriously, complaining about it doesn't solve anything. Be proactive.

*Filming counts as using the park in it's intended way.

This is why i'm pushing my home mountain to make people get park passes!
Everyone starts off as a beginner, we've all been there. What really pisses me off are the ones who treat the park like a regular fucking trail. At least filter out the people who actually want to learn to progress in the park from the ones who don't. I went to one mountain that used passes and everyone checked themselves before they recked themselves and it was just wonderful

Yeah whats up with those eleven year old kids that don't wear baggy clothing and are just getting interested in park so they ride through trying to get a feel for it and they sometimes fall over. Those kids suck.

Its fifteen, come on your better then this, if you're going to call me out on my age, at least get the facts right. Anyway I just want the OP to realize that these gapers are the future of freestyle skiing and are just getting into the sport. He has to be patcient with them, a lot of them are too afraid to even hit a box or go off a jump because they get shit from the kids in the park. Not everyone starts popping three's their first day.

everybody has been a gaper, but what i really cant stand is that today i was at an skifair to buy some new pants, (and believe me Netherland is the gaper capital) that gapers advice bullshit to other gapers! and sell skis from 1990 for 160 euros!
'oh youre a good skier? you should totally buy the longest ski in here, cause thats what good skiers ride!'

and offcourse

at my mountain there are periodically lessons of 6-8 year olds running around in the park with their instructors not giving a shit, we just treat them like part of the feature like "who can tail tap the little kid at the end of the rail?"

Let them gape it up in the smaller parks. They're figuring this shit out. Just keep them out of the big parks. Families standing on the landing of a 50 foot jump for a family photo is deadly and the worst.


For Mtns that have only one park... well that sucks and i feel for u.

Generally i really don't mind gapers or noobs in the park at all even if they arent making an effort to learn and are just cruising through becasue most poeple dont ski a lot and the park is a pretty entertaining place. What pisses me off though is parents who push there kids and get stuck on jumps/rails and fuck the flow of the park up. Also 0 regard for people who sit on jumps or in the landing I dont care if I hit you. I personally also have no problem cutting off anyone who is casually crusing through the park getting int he way of things

yeah. nothing worse than park skiers skiing outside of the park. can't tell you how many times i've tried skiing moguls only to have some park skier fly straight down thinking he's hot shit before losing control because his knees are stiff as the devil's dick when he gets a boner and falls directly in my line

 I don't think he wants everyone who's not a pro to GTFO, he just wanted to share a dangerous expericen that happened to him. Etiquette and safety are important in the park and outside. Even a pro can act like a gaper in the wrong situation:

A friend of mine was boarding in the park, some hot shot old guy skier comes blasting through the park at really high speed. She falls with one arm out in front of her, he carves over her hand and cuts her index finger off. He never even stopped or knew he did it. She got it reattached thank goodness.

I dont think OP is talking about kids trying to learn park, we've all been there, but i think he means the 40 year old gapers that bring their 5 year old kids into the park and go off the jumps for rails.

Well we've all been there and I really don't think it's that big of a deal because I think as little kids we've all done it. I find it becomes a huge problem when I'm hitting freeway which is the big park in Breckenridge and you have family standing there to watch but they're standing in the wrong spots. I actually landed on a kid doing a Superman front flip off the last jump in freeway I almost landed directly on his back basically the Tips of my skis kind of taped him in the back and I pushed him over before I stomped down to the ground which probably would have killed him. I've never had that big of a deal in the small part maybe I have to wait 10 seconds for the family to pass but it's really not that big of a deal

Best reply I've said in awhile. Everyone is a beginner at some point (including me, although not as bad as the guy mentioned in the OP).

Either give him a tip or ream him out for being a fucking idiot but bitching about it here in a "I'm better than you" tone doesn't help anyone.

I understand OP's point of view, he's obviously frustrated and just venting here. These stories in this thread remind me of the opening day last year at my mountain where this father took his two young girls (No older than 4 or 5 years old) into the park and let them ride up every feature where they then stopped at the lip, and skied back down. Not only was this dangerous but completely and utterly frustrating as I was cut off by a 4 year old multiple times while dropping in, only to find them stop at the top of the lip and ski back down. I am so in favor of park passes, just for the safety factor even. Those who want to learn progress and have fun in the park the way it was designed to be will DEFINITELY cough up the extra dough to go in there, those who don't care and have no interest will obviously say out.

Anyone have the link of that video where someone goes to throw a 5 off a jump and tip taps some girls helmet standing in the way?
