Cleaning up the forums

I noticed that if a forum has like 400 pages or so, that the forum will lost all those pages and it takes a huge chunk of space on the forum front page. to be honest its really cluttered and annoying to have to scroll down that much unnecessary stuff.

My suggestion:

Post the current page it is on.

Add a search bar to type in if you want to skip to certain page. I.e. 300 pages want to go page 27 type in 27 and boom you are there.

Thoughts, suggestions, or naysayers are welcome to comment on this.

THREAD: A specific post that brings up a certain discussion
POST: A reply to a thread giving that poster's opinion

And I apologize for getting the nomenclature wrong.

The threads underneath the forum are getting too cluttered. There are excessive amounts of pages due to all the posts that people have.

vBulletin is another forum system that you can click on one of the first 3 pages and then it has a page to go to the "Last Page" of the thread. Something like that could help clean up the pages I guess.

don't bother. I've already tried campaigning to get rid of threads that are 430 pages of shit that no one ever reads, but this place is inexplicably attached to them.

The problem is that there's no right way to clean these things up. In my mind, the important pages of a XX page thread are the first one and then the last 2 or 3. Since the space for each thread title is 2 lines long i'd use the first one for the title and the second for pages. The second line can fit a max of 22 2-digit pages but there's really no need for that many pages to be selectable. So I shopped in a possibility of showing the first 5 and last 5.

Yah honestly the mods/admins are just being stubborn about not changing it to [1 2 3 ... # # # ]. It's not a hard fix, but they're just stuck with the old ways to not change. Which is understandable.
