Who do you think is crazy enough(or just good enough) to try and land a quad, and do you think there is a possibility we will see one this season??

not this season no way. Not until people start throwing triples in comps regularly.

Definitely possible, but it'll come to a point where the only way to progress is to build bigger jumps, and you can only go so big.

Yeah I won't expect anybody to try on until everyone else is hucking triples back to back in comps, so that could be quite a while now

This, i think theres one or two guys who could do it, but they dont have the jump to do so.
Once comps start having jumps that can comfortably be tripled, triples will be more popular, then quads.
Right now i think its all bout the jumps

I'd bet anything that triples are everywhere this season. Doubles are barely even surprising to see anymore.

The one thing about quads though... aerials never really managed to get quads into the mainstream, did they? There must be a reason that didn't happen... I mean those guys are hitting the kickiest flipping jumps of all time.

yea im sure theres a ton of regulations to aerials like in moguls how you still cant double. Aerialists have done quads as well, but they were on some big fucking jumps, probably bigger than what there using today in the olympics or whatever

Aerialists don't do cork tricks though. When they do triples and quads they're going fully inverted that many times. I think we all can agree that when it comes to freeskiing, there's been some questionable triples thrown (in terms of whether the skiers feet actually went above their head three times). I think a quad cork is probably not that far off and will require less inversion that you see from aerialists.

Aerialists can do quads though, as someone else mentioned they're simply banned in competitions. I mean shit, a dude did one in 1983 -



So I'm not saying that its harder or easier for us to do them. I'm saying that there is potentially a reason why Aerialists don't do them. Most of the rules that formed around Aerials were due to severe injuries... not people wanting to be boring.

id see a quad "flat" getting thrown before a quad cork though. and when that happens its definitely not a question of if there feet are going over the head, but just the opposite of that as they normally turn in to wack flips ie bobby brown on the first alyeska jump

I've seen FULL-FULL-FULL-FULL done at a water ramp. He landed about 8 feet from the end of the pool in Lake Placid, and it was one of the craziest things I've ever scene live with my own eyes.

Though aerialists have done quads before, they are not done in competition. There is a double and a triple jump; no quad jump for aerials. If aerials has still not progressed to quads on snow yet, then I doubt it is coming to freeride any time soon. C'mon, like Bishop said, aerialists hit the kickiest jumps ever. Until a quad jump gets built for World Cups for aerials, I doubt that we will see them in the park.

Maybe off a backcountry booter, you never know. I'm always getting surprised at what some people can throw.

But they have done quads on snow but i believe there are FIS rules in place to prevent quads so no one gets hurt.
that just sounds like FIS stopping progression to me?

Having a couple people do quads on snow outside of competition is different. Quads are not done in competition...There is not even a standard jump for quads in competition, nor is their a quad jump at water ramps yet. (Though you can do quads, and more, off the triple)

because there are rules in place to prevent them... what I'm saying is aerialists don't do them because they aren't allowed to due to FIS, not because they can't/ have progressed to them yet.

i feel like an aerial triple is the equivalent to a freeride double as they are fully inverted, flip faster, etc. So a freerider doing a quad will be like an aerialist doing 5 flips ( dont even know what you would call that, quintuple ? )

There are no FIS rules against quadruples in aerials...If you are qualified for a trick on water and snow then technically you can do that trick no matter what it is. I'll do some searching in the database, but I don't believe that anyone is qualified for quads yet.

And @Brent_Whipple, I hadn't thought about it that way, but I agree. It is definitely easier for an aerialist to do a quad tuck than it is for a freerider to do a quad cork 18.

It is only legal if they build a quad jump for the comp. You can do whatever trick in aerials as long as the corresponding jump is built. And currently, they do not build quad jumps in aerial competitions.

I actually think this one isn't just to stop progression... its to prevent quads causing quadriplegics.

There was a super bad run of injuries in the old days of freestyle. That was what caused the whole FIS thing... it just went too far.

I don't know why, its probably because I suck at park, but slower spins are more appealing to me. I remember in the snowboarding game Amped 3, you would get more points for slower spins. I mean it's cool and all to see crazy super future spins and now I guess it could be called future (or maybe past) flips. But I think it puts a more serious vibe to skiing that can be off putting to non skiers. Sorry if that didn't make sense and no hate to Future spinners, um and to each their own, I guess. I'm not even sure why I'm typing any more, this is weird. Tacos. mice eating spaghetti. cats eating squash, eating mice eating spaghetti. dogs eating grilled cheese, eating cats eating squash, eating mice eating spaghetti. Talking provolone cheese eating dogs eating grilled cheese, eating cats eating squash eating mice eating spaghetti, all while riding in a golf cart with monster tires. but not like monster truck tires, but tires made out of monsters.

im going to call this now so when it gets bumped ill be awesome i think that someone this year, idk why but i have a feeling it will be a snowboarder will try a hucked Quad backflip into pow and not land it over the next 2 years someone will try it fall not do it again then in 3 years someone will stomp the shit out of it.

How in the world is that 4 d-spins...

Nevertheless, it is still dope. But it is a quad full (full = backflip 360 on axis). So 4 backflips and a 1440. Guy is nuts.

I totally agree id way rather see super stylie singles and nice low number spins 900 and under. but I still think someone will try a quad just because they can, although i do agree i would see a snowboarder trying one first, i have seen a couple where they were very close.. watch this a little bigger jump with the same spin this guy could have brought it around i think, kinda cool i guess
