why do you need mpeg? just outta curiosity. im looking for someone who can help me convert my dvd collection to mpeg files

i wanted mov-mpeg cause i have 2 cams..one with sound and one without...i want to mix the footage but the one with sound is in mpeg and the one without is in mov. windows moviemaker dosnt take mov and Adobe Premier 6 dosnt let me use mpeg and mov in the same movie..im very frustrated
