Are HH and T-Wall the proper candidates?

With the SOTY finals voting beginning, I had to wonder whether the two going at it are the right choices by the community. I've heard a lot of talk about the voters being "Inspired Media's trend whores", but I'm sure that's only a small demographic of voters. So this poses the question:
Were Henrik and Tom the proper candidates for SOTY?

Yes they are. Freeskier is more or less a park skiing mag and there is no question they are the best two park skiers in the world.

Tom is the best comp skier, he won pretty much everything with flawless runs and some ridiculously tech rail tricks to be throwing on command like that.
Henrik is the best video skier, he's got more tricks that nobody else in the world can do than anyone I can think of, he may look silly but he's on another level.

They aren't my favourite skiers by the way, neither of them really skis the way I like to watch but in absolute terms they are top of the park game.

T-Wall has done nothing in the big mountain arena.  Until he steps up to the most important area of skiing, I would not consider him one of the top 100 skiers in the world, let alone one of the top 10.

Sammy Carlson was hurt this year, but he was a different story.  He can actually rip the mountain on a world class level.

How about Reine Barkered?  The guy won the most important contest in freeskiing and won the world tour.

Here is a question for you, and the many others I have seen comment about how they can't give Candide credit for something they have not seen:  Will you give him the top post NEXT year if Few Words is an Art of Flight type masterpiece?  If you can't count him this year, you should count him next year.

I hope people who don't read Powder will avoid voting in that contest.  I think everyone knows T-Wall is not a favorite of the readers there.  Things changed when Powder came on here and got votes from people that don't read there mag.

I've said this a million times, but it is funny how things changed.  When I was a kid back east we skied bump runs and aspired to ski big lines.  I guess many east coast kids are so myopic that they don't care about that.  Does it mean anything that the best skiers all dream of being better in big mountains after they have dominated the park scene?  I would think so, but I guess not.

Phil casabon has been solid all year IMO he should have beat tom in the semi-finals, he killed it this year, his segment in education of style was amazing, he got 3rd in freestyle.ch and has been killing it in abunch of edits this year. Think maybe he should get some recognition

IMO

they are the best candidates this year

henrik pulled off a 10 minute long segment in TEOS that is arguably one of the best segments ever, while competing and putting out numerous b&e edits

and tom, well he won every comp this year (xgames, dew tour, war of rails, etc) while pulling off a considerable amount of shots with level1

Regardless of your close minded opinion, park, urban, and comps are just as much of a part of the freeskiing scene as big mountain.

im pretty sure hes the only person in history of snow sports to do this. i wont deny his competition runs were basically the same at each one but the level he was at was high enough to win nearly every slope competition and still have some of the heaviest video shots in the top movies of the year. i feel safe in saying no one has ever had a season that strong. definitely deserves skier of the year.

note: not discounting what henrik is doing at all. his approach to skiing is all time. he has incredible skill on jumps and rails but instead of doing the norm hes pushing in new and different ways. but if youre giving an award for best performing ski athlete of the year it has to go to tom.

he did, I'm not lacking in knowledge about him, but that was a while ago, the whole point of this thread/stupid ass competition is it's about this year. Definitely plenty of people who can do all four 12s now. I've seen that edit and it's crazy, some of the ski slide stuff blew my mind and I still love watching it. But I think there is someone out there who could do all the tricks individually, the Skifi guys could probably do the ski slide stuff for example. I doubt many people if any could do all the tricks in it but that doesn't make the tricks unique. Don't get me wrong, I think he's an incredible skier, I'm not trying to hate on him!

So what skill does it take? Cause if the secret to doing rails is to stop practicing with skis on I have been going about it all wrong!!

IMO Tom deserves it this year. Henrik is an incredible skier who brings his own unique style to the game that is straight inspiring to watch, but Tom is so smooth. I think that because Tom is so consistent, people get bored. I agree with many that they don't kill it on big mountain lines and that there are a lot of deserving skiers out there, but this is who is in the finals so we must choose between the two. Maybe they should make a change to the system... get new criteria??

but honestly, SOTY should look at the best overall skier which would be sean pettit... Dont get me wrong Edollo and Tom Wallisch are on a whole other level at park and they are at the top of their sport, but Sean Pettit is throwing rodeos off thirty footers in Alaska so I would think he is a better overall skier

Pretty much validates the above point, there's too many types of freeskiing to vote on one. There should be separate categories, i.e. urban, competition, big mountain etc

haha well to defend my year old post i didnt say it doesnt take skill, it just doesnt take traditional skiing skill compared to hitting jumps even...i really dont see how its that unreasonable to say. having edge control on rails is completely different than edge control on snow.
