Are HH and T-Wall the proper candidates?

With the SOTY finals voting beginning, I had to wonder whether the two going at it are the right choices by the community. I've heard a lot of talk about the voters being "Inspired Media's trend whores", but I'm sure that's only a small demographic of voters. So this poses the question:
Were Henrik and Tom the proper candidates for SOTY?

I believe that Harlaut made himself worthy in the comp scene this year. Throwing those butter-dubs and bringing something innovative to the game. Besides, where can you find a more positive, funny and stoked dude. Wallisch posted excellent results in both X Games and the Dew Tour, he had a really consistent season. He also had some sick urban shots in Sunny and managed to film alot. My personal opinion is that they are both candidates, but are they more worthy than the others? Well, I guess thats another question.

In my opinion they are two of the best skiers in the world. The both film and compete at a higher level than almost anyone else. I think its far that they both made the finals. I voted not based on hype but based on how much I liked watching the people ski and Voted for them both all the way through.

I agree, Tom has the cleanest style in the game, everything is stomped and all his endeavors this year have really paid off by doing really well at X-Games and at the Dew Tour along with his incredible role in Sunny, which was the best film this year IMO. He clearly deserves the contention for the prize.

Henrik was a good contender and don't get me wrong an incredible skier who has brought new tricks and style to the sport although frankly I can say that I am quite bored of his butter dub, so does he deserve his nomination, maybe?

I fucking love Candide too, but I haven't had the chance to see 'A Few Words' yet, maybe it'll be mind-blowing, but Tom and Henrik have been some of the standouts for sure. Both have dominated comps and put out solid film segments, can't think of any others who have done the same.

It doesn't matter, because they're predetermined to win anyway. Too many fanboys to overcome. They could have spent the ski season in the bahamas and still made the final. Might as well do next year's now before the season even happens, it'll be the same thing.

Can you guys tell I really don't like this contest?

Tom and Henrik are both phenomenal skiers. Candide is also a phenomenal skier. They both dominate the skiing world in their own ways. Candide is a comprehensive package, multiple Xgames medals in multiple disciplines, 1st at cold rush, and the list goes on, Candide kills it everywhere and has done it all. Wallisch and Henrik are both leading the charge and are doing things Candide, Tanner and Jon never thought possible, however, they lack the all around versatility that comes with experience and the opportunity become truly dynamic.
Again all are great skiers, personally I like Candide because I have watched his career unfold since the beginning. But I also regard Tom and Henrik as perhaps the two best park skiers to ever walk this planet. Tough call but there is always next year and we Candide fans will take confidence in his recent article where he said getting back in the park is his next focus.

It seems like people are getting mixed up with skier of the year and their favourite skier. Candide for sure is an awesome skier but this year he has been fully involved with his film, which most of us haven't seen yet, and hasn't been seen outside of that. To vote for him on this year's performance would be voting for him off the hype surrounding his film.
T-wall and Harlaut on the other hand have been visible all season posting sick results and some great footage that we can already watch.

I vote these things based on who I think is the best all around skier. For some reason all around best skier usually doesn't include pipe. So yeah, no big mountain for Harlaut or wallisch. I would rather see Dane or Pwhite.

In my opinion they are the proper candidates. Although i do love, Candide and have watched his career unfold I believe that the demographic of voters for SOTY may be a younger generation. Park has taken over the ski scene and is what is televised. Therefore, the younger kids watching skiing now see nothing but park and they vote for who they see winning and doing cool ass shit.

god fucking damnit. why does no one understand that it is fucking skier of the YEAR.

yes candide has had a far more impressive career. but 9.99/10 of you are saying 'candide' off of a fucking trailer, (which has been 3 years in the making). pull your head out of you assholes. or go tgr and bitch about the newschool scene there because its fucking obnoxious.

i personally will vote for dollo purely because of the education of style. i loved the 9 minute long segment of pure dollo carnage. i think that is the future of film making in the sport (ex. tom is making a solo project with decker i believe this coming year). plus he is doing tricks that absolutely no one else is doing. while yes tom destroyed the contest scene this year i believe henrik has progressed the sport more in the past year than anyone else.

thus, i have casted my vote for henrik harlaut.

Almost everyone who was nominated deserves it. Some people are going to like certain skiers more and other skiers less so no matter who was in the finals there would be naysayers. Pretty much anyone could have won and most people wouldn't argue

they both are great candidates. tom killed the comp scene and had some crazy shots in like 3 different movies... not a lot of people do that. and at the same time. tom is happy has fun with his friends and a great "model figure" for the free skiing scene nationally.

HH stayed relevant in comps and placed in a few. and brought creativity to the comps. the inspired media movie was mind blowing. he had some crazy shots and is always stoked as hell to ski.

and i dont know who im going to vote for. hard choice for sure

I voted for both every round but there were plenty of candidates that I would've been okay with in the final. But yes I think Wallisch and Harlaut are well deserving.

Whatever man, I'm just trying to say how it is from my perspective, there are so many skiers out there doing other cool things and again, IN MY OPINION, I think that a lot of hype about one particular trick is nuts, I for one would have preferably had P White take the title or Dane (guys that destroy all aspects of freeskiing), no real need to start some sort of hate towards someone over their opinion, chill.

I agree with Ders so much. The only screening of Few Words has been in France. And what, maybe a couple thousand? Have voted out of France for the competition? Yes. Why should Candide win when it looks like he's put in half the effort that Tom and Henrik have, at least to those that haven't seen Few Words.

And sure, some underdogs may deserve the title more than Tom and Henrik, but hey. They worked their asses off. It only makes sense.

Absolutely the right choices. People can hate all they want, but this is freeskier of the YEAR, and TW has had one heck of a year. There's no denying that. E-dollo also has had a huge year between comps and his involvement with inspired and the Education of Style. Arguments can be made for just about any skier on the list but to me these two seem like two of the most sensible choices

I agree that the voting stuff is stupid, but in all honesty, these 2 deserve skier of ther year for a few reasons:
tom wallisch: won almost every slopestyle comp he entered last season, did some gnarly urban
henrik harlaut: most innovative park skier in the game, did a few never before seen tricks that judges dont even know how to score

you can bitch all you want, that everyone on ns is freaking out over twall and hh, but they definetly are the best in the game

but i do think there should be another soty for the bigmountain dudes, as they get way less exposure etc.
And i think we are still not at the same level as snowboarding where you got guys who shred everything like nicolas mueller, the only skier I can think of who excels in all aspects of freesking is pwhite

he is the master of so many tricks though. but that can only carry you so far before people get tired of it. it doesnt really matter though, even though hes throwing the same tricks, he still wins comps with it. thats what the SOTY needs to do. however his segments werent all too standout-ish this year. i dunno. thats my opinion of tom this year

This is a freeski mag popularity contest, and Tom and Henrik completely deserve it. and if you dont understand why then you should go bury your head in the snow.
