Yo, posting from ohio here. Im with the Ohio State Ski Team and were taking a trip to Stowe from Dec. 13-18th. A few members have expressed intrest in finding some sidecountry or places to hike and ski some glades/trees. My questions are; what are the laws (both state and resort) about out of bounds skiing. And second, is it even worth our time to venture out of bounds in early december.
Thanks, Hansel.
P.S. how good is stowe's park at the beginning of december?
As far as laws, Mt. Mansfield is state forest, so it's publicly owned. The resort leases the land inside the ski area boundaries, but once you're outside those boundaries you're on your own. People often overlook how dangerous Stowe is, but we have at least a few air lift rescues every year. Helicopter flights aren't cheap. Not trying to scare you, just don't be stupid.
lots of fun near and out of the way places around stow. they be blowing their faces off so trails should be fine by then but the sky needs to drop a few feet base to really enjoy the woods.
