This time it could be for industry people who actually know what the fuck they are talking about. I have seen the dumbest shit spouted off by orange and green names. Seeing as you just hand the orange name out to anyone who can print a tall-t, knit a beanie, or source some shit from China. Maybe have something for people Like Oneornery kid who actually dispense some knowledge. Kids on this site think that an Orange or Green name means the person behind it knows shit....mostly they don't.

People that have provided good sustainable knowledge about skis/boots/bindings, hell, even cameras should get Their name in a different color.

Orange names do need a deep cleansing of the system, I agree

but adding more name colors is too much IMO. If they're active in the industry contributors then they get one, sorry if they aren't A+ knowledge contributors.

No, what he was trying to say is that he deserves a whole new colour. Mainly because he is a legitimate contributor. It would be nice if we had an entire section for manufacturer's and professional product reps. Give them their OWN section of the site inaccessible to everyone else for professional talk amongst brands. I love the way Onenerdykid/Atomic, Saga, 4FRNT, Line Skis, ON3P, Ehoto, and even Knee Bindings (to name a small few that are standouts IMO) are on on the forums really contributing, and helping us riders out.

I feel like lots of these brands steer way clear of this place is because they're afraid of being ripped on, trolled, and so forth. Which I could see. A 30 year old some rep who is a pretty professional guy may have a tough time dealing with a mainly teenager demographic that really say what's on their minds, you know. Even going beyond that and speaking irrationally, that kind of behavior may turn a company off of being active in the forums. If they had their own dedicated section, they could discuss this, get a feel for it and understand that whole aspect more.

It would also maybe promote a better atmosphere and vibe for brands to work together? No, they don't have to spill all their processes and proprietary information but hey, if they work together on some of the smallest things, and get a good feel for who is good and bad for who they might like to work with. At the end of the day it might progress the gear market a lot faster, or slower, but even progression on a minute scale is good right?

Feelin me on any of this?

i know what you're trying to say, i just don't think this is going to work....

we could start giving different color names for whatever, but in the end it's just going to be a whole rainbow of confusion and the 'value' of differentiated colors will diminish ....

for now i think its good that different colored names are rather 'rare'. If over half of NS is going to end up with names that aren't blue nor pink, it's going to become difficult for people to realize that these colors actually mean something ...

Very true, Have we thought about giving orange names their own dedicated sections accessible to maybe only orange and rednames? Or do they have this already. Part of the problem with that to, is that some companies might like to have group discussions separate and private from the pros they sponsor. Sort of a 'Summit' for ski company brands. Aha maybe I'm just overthinking everything!

Yeah some people really don't deserve them, not going to name any names. I'm surprised OP doesn't have orange actually, him and onenerdykid I've always though of as the most useful posters in GT. but I suppose that doesn't really have anything to do with the industry.

if they need to discuss something privately they can do so via email/PM
all the other stuff can pretty much go in the public forums ...
it's not like they talk about completely different shit than the rest of NS ....

I personally don't have any problems with this but I just thought I'd throw out a suggestion.

You know where it says "Crazy Fool", "Post Whore" and all that stuff based on someone's post count. Maybe that could be a bit more personalized? For example it sounds like people are just frustrated with the orange names, maybe instead of having those "crazy fool" things, just have it a bit more personalized maybe saying why they happen to have an orange name? This might help in the sense that, let's say you're asking for advice about skis, and an orange name gives you advice, and it says he's orange because he makes stickers or something, you would then take his opinion with a grain of salt as opposed to that of someone who works for a ski company or something like that? I'm not trying to say that photographers wouldn't know anything about skis, but it might help in gauging how trustworthy someone's advice may be?

Also, this model could apply to non-orange names as well. For example, let's say there is a certain blue name member who has proven that he knows his shit about skis/boots by giving a lot of solid advice, maybe he could be given a title that reflects his knowledge.

If you guys don't like this idea, I won't be offended ahaha, I just thought I'd throw it out there.

It's cool but just not for everyone. Just have red names designate them should they see it be required. Anyone else that doesn't have it, is not as likely to have good solid answers. Something like that.
