Parents buying things

So i ski for a freestyle skiing team that skis both days every weekend and has dryland during the week,due to my availibility no places will hire me for a job.
Im turning 16 soon and would like a vehicle but without my parents wont pay for one and i cant quit skiing. So i need ur opinion on how to approach them on this

You can shovel enough driveways to acquire enough money to buy a beater.

True, good post. I just think people should explain more. The way people post they make it seem like he should be able to support himself. Or that using money from parents is bad, but in reality it's the cycle of modern day life. Parents don't want spoiled kids, but there is also no need to hoard money you can't take with you.

My point is people should be realistic for his age. Get a part-time job, help do your part, do well in school, and go half and half on an older car with your dad or something like that.

I ski race for two teams. Which means 1 hour 30min of driving every night after school and on weekends.
I saved up and bought a car for a grand. 100,000 miles, straight six, lifted, 02 jeep grand cherokee. Damn good car, super cheap too.

OP might travel and compete since hes on a team. He could be in different states to do all the USSA and USASA comps and shit. All the people I know that ski everyday that compete have valid reasons not to be employed, Mostly because they don't have the time to work because they are gone a majority of the winter.

What about the summer though?

Most people I know of that are in school still get the summers off. It's kind of a trend. Plenty of time to make that cheddar

still is easy but kids dont seem to realize teenage jobs aren't going to be glamours and they won't be able to hang out with friends as much. im 17 now and just got my 4th job, (i dont see why you would need more than 10 different jobs in highschool) and have worked ever since im 14 and haven't once had problem with a finding a job

Guy started a family, needed a sedan rather than the jeep, i told him what i do. stoked to hear about my plans for the jeep and plans for my own future he gave me a deal (after like 2 months of talking.)

want to hear something shocking, i am about to buy my first car for 4000 and guess what i saved up for it all on my own!!!! want to know something else i only worked 2 shifts a week during the school year and not once on the weekend. here i will let you in on a little secret of how i did it.

step 1: i got a job
step 2: i saved my money
step 3 : i will buy a car

honestly it isnt hard i worked two shifts a week during the school year and full time in the summer, in total i was saving for like 6-8 months. btw not to sound to like a smart prick but im also get a 90 average and am in 3 different ap classes

gonna be straight here and say that if you don't act like an entitled bitch, and you truly need a car, your parents may find one cheap enough they are willing to buy. do not under any means ask for a car. that makes you sound horrible. if you ski, your parents are probably in a financial position to afford another car - if your 16 you probably dont need anything great, a used civic for 4500 will be cheap insurance. if your parents dont wanna drive you around anymore and give you more independence than thats reasonable. if your family already has two cars or you live in a city than deal with not getting a car until you can afford one yourself, just share or take the subway. anyways if you cant get one its really not the end of the world, when your young seems like a big deal but its really not.
