Best places to ski in the world.

Hey there,

I've decided to start planning the ski trip of a lifetime. I'd like to spend at least 6 months traveling the world and skiing. I'd like to experience it all. Good park, heliskiing, ski-touring you name it. Maybe throw in some surfing too.

I was thinking of leaving around December and doing North America first. Then do asia towards the end of the season. Then maybe Hawaii in the spring time. Once summer comes head south of the equator and do New Zealand and South America.

I live in Europe so that won't be on the Agenda,

So NS, what places should definitely go on my list?

damn im jealous.

utahs fun and has great parks and pow. tahoe area can be good.

BC has lotsa good skiing, whistler, whitewater, kicking horse, red mt. depending how long you will be in north america you could easily ski the powder highway in bc if you have access to a car of course. if not your best bet would probably be whistler because they have shuttles from vancouver to bc for easy access to flights. not much in the way of airports in interior bc.

talk to mitchpee if you want to do some guided stuff in japan, he works at the black diamond lodge where a bunch of film crews go. he knows the goods.

a little more info on where you would want to go, your age (if youre able to rent a car), places you have already been, or anywhere you wanna stay away form etc..

I'm 16 and am planning on doing this with a buddy or two in a few years. Basically my plan is graduate High school in May, work full construction full time for 6 months whilst living with my parents to save up, then heading out on the adventure.

I grew up in Switzerland so I've skied all over Switzerland as well as the major French resorts (Chamonix, Verbier etc.) and a few things in Austria & Germany. I actually snowboard but my friends ski and we all love the back country, but enjoy park riding too.

Also worth noticing that I'm living in Norway at the moment as a foreign exchange student, so I'll hit a few mountains here as well.

I can't really think of anywhere I want to stay away from, the only thing that might make it hard will be if places are hard to access. There is a chance I'll be able to rent a car in some places as at least one of us will have a driving license, we'll just obviously be on a budget.

Places where we can party after riding are also welcomed!

Nice plan!
As you won't be skiing Europe, i would start my trip Northwest in North America, do Whistler then some heliskiing in BC or Catskiing. the go south, Mt hood, then head south to California, ski Mammoth, and Lake tahoe Area. Then go to Utah, ski park city on a sunny day, when a little more than a feet fall, Do Alta/Snowbird. Then go to Jackson hole just for pow. Head to Colorado por park days to do list: Breck, keystone, Copper.
Then head to south colorado to the san juan mts, for pow.
then in late June, head down to south america, start in Valle nevado (chile) then cross the border to Argentina and ski Las Leñas on o good powder week, head down to Bariloche, stay there so you can eat some Good "Asado" ski there a couple of days, then head down to Ushuaia.
then take a plane to Nz, do snowpark and Cardrona. and also Wanaka... enjoy the nature and the arrival of the spring in september crusing arround NZ

I think you should head up to Alaska first and do some heli-skiing then make your way south through Whistler, and through the states untill you end up in Mammoth or Hood. Then you could get a flight to Japan and hit up Black Diamond Lodge (my friend said it was amazing). Other than that you could go to South America?

Has anyone here ever been skiing in africa?

I remember reading somewhere that there are resorts in Morocco, but I'm not sure if it's worth looking into.

Haha, Black Diamond is cool and all, but unless you really want to spend a bunch on guiding, Hirafu(the main village) is a much better place to stay whilst in Niseko.

Anyhow, Japan is a must, start there in January, tour around Hokkaido, hit up Asahidake, Rusutsu, Niseko and Teine.
Feb, move to Canada, Revy, KH etc, then as spring starts, head to CO for the parks, maybe Cali too. Then back North for some AK action in April. Then not sure, more park somewhere, anyway, kill some time until heading to Chile/Arg, in July.

Hang out in South America for July and August at least. It's better than NZ. Best is probably Las Lenas, Portillo is super sick too though. Lots of smaller mountains about too, Pucon, Termas de Chillan, Antillanca.

NZ for their spring, Cardies and SnowPark, club fields if there are any late dumps.

Would be cool to hit up Gulmarg at some point too, not sure when their peak season is.

I've worked in ski resorts on 5 continents, so I know where's good.

I've been to where one of the ski resorts is in Morocco, but a little after the ski season. It was a cool experience, but I wouldn't say it was really worth a trip compared to other places.

Japan. IF you have the ability to go anywhere why not go somewhere you can rip powder 24 hours a day, Oh and it snow 20+ ft a year.

This sounds awesome. The trip has to finish around August in order for me to start University, but I was thinking maybe I could start by riding NZ in spring and then doing something similar to the rest of what you suggested.

Can you recommend anywhere in Alaska? It's such a huge place haha.

From what I've seen you can ski there, but it's nothing amazing. I'd rather skip Africa and head down to the Russia/Georgia border. Looks amazing down there.

That sounds so fun!
For North America i would suggest doing some of everything
Alta/Snowbird for snow
Whister for big mountain and parks
Colorado for terrain
Pacific Northwest for touring
