I need help to find the best setting with my rode mic on my t2i with magic lantern, thanks M and A!

its all trial and error and depends on the situation. but make sure you have AGC turned off for sure. then i usually have my left and right digital at zero and then i have mess with the levels to where its just touching the yellow at its loudest. usually thats anywhere from 12 to 17 db for me on my videomic pro

A good way to explain it is that you want the gain to be high enough to get the important noises (rail noises, taps, whatever) but you want it to be low enough to filter out any background noise you might not want. So find a spot in the middle where you can get the sound you want.

If your levels are hitting red thats bad. This is called "clipping".

yeah this. rode makes a pretty good mic so it will pick up some of the small stuff and you can usually boost that a few dbs later in post without any "noise". but if you clip like he mentioned, you are sol and there is no getting that sound back
