I just got the new Atomic Tracker bindings and some 185 JJ's. I usually ride center mounted park skis. I will be using these all over the mountain and backcountry. Would like to land and ride some switch in the pow so I don't want them too far back. Should I mount them 1 cm back? 2, 3? Any tips would be appreciated
Everything in ski gear is a compromise; you just need to figure out what you want. Just don't kid yourself about how much switch you'll actually be doing, because they'll ski way worse in deep snow at -2 than -5.
Makes sense. I may just do -5 if the skinning will be that much worse. Do you think a good compromise will be -3, -4, or should I just stick with -5 if I plan on a decent amount of skinning?
You can still skin at -3 or -4, it just won't be ideal. Same goes for skiing pow on them when they're mounted forward of recommended. I have 185's that are -3 from center and I like them a lot, but it's true that they don't float as well. If you do mount them forward of recommended, don't go any more than 2 cm forward.
